This position is responsible for leading the Manufacturing, Maintenance, Scheduling, Process, Engineering and Distribution teams of the Harris Products Group Shoals location, ensuring successful completion of goals and objectives from strategic planning through implementation.  The Operation Manager is responsible for identifying and securing the needed resources to improve customer service, manufacturing costs, process improvements, quality and distribution excellence.  Will leads these teams, by setting goals and objective that will position the facility ahead of the competition and ensure up-to-date manufacturing practices and technology are utilized. Travel to other facilities and/or suppliers may be required.

 

 

 

 

Leadership / Administrative 

  • Overall responsibility to ensure facility manufacturing and distribution strategies and techniques result in cost effective, on-time delivery of products through the implementation of the full range of LEAN methodologies throughout the facility and are aligned to the corporate strategy.   
  • Responsible for goal setting, technology improvement, and problem resolution within the teams.
  • Will develop strong partnership links with the Sales, Purchasing and Financial teams to implement strategic initiatives necessary to hit profitability and growth targets.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operations of all facility functions.
  • Ensures all safety and environmental policies and procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for evaluating products, processes, and facilities to ensure HPG’s is properly positioned to compete in the global market place
  • Will be called upon to make sound decisions within compressed timelines and to balance multiple projects and objectives concurrently.
  • Establishes a manufacturing culture that utilizes Lean Six Sigma tools to focuses on providing the resources needed to improve the work environment and accomplish the task of providing the highest level of customer service, thus sustaining continual growth and profitability.
  • Formulates strategic plans that improve operating cost and effectiveness while meeting financial, quality and distribution objectives, write reports to ensure proper communication to Corporate Leadership Staff.
  • Coordinates activities and objectives with corporate business teams, Operations staff, and other functions as appropriate
  • Benchmarks, communicates and implements best practices, in their area of responsibility so that successes, failures, and obstacles can be identified, communicated and leveraged across other projects.
  • Coordinate the engineering changes and support the technical discussion to improve products and processes
  • Supports sustaining engineering requirements such as Engineering Change Requests (ECRS) and New Part Requests (NPRs) that require costing and the creation of routers
  • Works on global cost savings projects, Six Sigma projects and provides support for other team meetings and projects
  • Define plant equipment and layouts to optimize cellular alignments to enhance product flow using Value Stream Mapping and Cellularization techniques.
  • Lead improvement teams using DMAIC and Kaizen to identify and eliminate root cause of production process issues
  • Research, write, edit and proofread technical data for use in documents such as technical manuals, data sheets, safe use guides, procedures, specifications and capital requests

 

Supplier/ Customer interface 

  • Interfacing with customers to enhance service and win more business
  • Support the costing and pricing development
  • Negotiating with suppliers and carriers to ensure competitive market positions and quality compliance with company standards and expectations
  • Develops long term relationships with Suppliers and Contractor personnel.

 

 

Education and/or Experience:                  

  • 1 – 3 yrs business management experience in a manufacturing environment, showing career progression with stability and increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to relate well with plant personnel at all levels.
  • Implementation of Lean/6 Sigma manufacturing programs
  • BS degree in a technical or business discipline.
  • Masters level education with a business focus preferred
  • Working knowledge of metals fabrication and assembly industry preferred
  • SAP utilization and implementation
