Job Title: Machine Assistant


Department: Machine


Reports to: Machine Shop Supervisor


Shift: Second shift, Full-time (Monday – Friday)

Position Summary: Perform a variety of machine set-up, shipping and receiving tasks. Compares identifying information on incoming or outgoing shipments with purchase orders, invoices or other documents. Must have valid driver’s license.



  • Perform basic machine set-up duties including cleaning;
  • Prepare routine administrative paperwork;
  • Prepare bill of materials for production staff;
  • Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel;
  • Sort, check, count and verify data;
  • Receive, track, stock and distribute materials, supplies and equipment;
  • Lift and manipulate heavy objects;
  • Package equipment and load into semi-trailers efficiently and safely;
  • Knowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and procedures;
  • Read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required;
  • Uphold company quality objectives and play an active role in reaching continuous improvement objectives; and
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Experience / Skills:

  • High attention to detail and quality;
  • Ability to plan and execute daily and weekend scheduled tasks;
  • Ability to keep work area clean and organized;
  • Ability to give directions to peers within the department;
  • Excellent team player with organizational and time management skills;
  • Safely operate fork trucks and overhead cranes;
  • Skill in the use of computers, specifically in a PC, Windows-based operating environment;
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports;
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations; and
  • Commitment to company values.

  • Safety (OSHA, SDS), ANSI (RIA) standards. 


Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S):

  • Understand the Company’s EH&S Policy and how it relates to this job;
  • Be aware of OSHA & EPA laws and regulations as well as Vizient’s rules and policies that pertain to this job;
  • Work in a safe and environmentally friendly manner and observe all company EH&S procedures;
  • Immediately notify the supervisor if there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly or if there are any questions regarding EH&S procedures; and
  • Attend required EH&S training.

  • Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is typically required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend; squat; climb; talk, see and hear. Be able to climb ladders; lift hand tools approx. 1-15 lbs. in weight to complete machine assembly, parts up to 50 lbs. Repetition with activity. 
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; temperature in the machine shop may fluctuate with the seasons as the production area is not air conditioned.
