Position Summary: Conceptual and detailed engineering of custom industrial automation equipment including robotic work cells, work piece tooling, and positioning equipment using 3-D CAD software (i.e., ProE / Creo and SolidWorks). Complete mechanical engineering items needed to design, build, ship and service products. A Mechanical Designer typically works on one (1) complex design at a time and has the capability to perform all mechanical engineering tasks on a project from beginning to completion.
Responsibilities:
- Fast-paced work environment (typical project duration is 4-8 weeks);
- Mechanical aptitude for engineering custom / prototype mechanisms;
- Ability to complete basic engineering calculations (static, dynamic systems);
- Interaction and involvement with related personnel during fabrication and demonstration of equipment;
- Frequent interaction with customer during development projects;
- Provide mechanical layouts and details to production;
- Take initiative to meet challenging project timelines and budgets (hours and materials);
- Ability to act as Engineering Lead, Designer and Detailer for small-scale projects;
- Ensure that product, as designed, is in conformance with quote and customer purchase order;
- Assist in compiling documentation;
- Provide technical assistance to Estimating, Sales, Production and Service, as required;
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively in team environment, which may involve Machine (builders), Project Management, Engineering Teams, Management and support functions; and
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience / Skills:
- Preferred candidates will have one (1) to two (2) years of relevant design experience in industrial automation and/or a degree in mechanical engineering or similar field. Industry experience is preferred.
- Proven design experience with Industrial Automation is preferred; minimum of one (1) year of experience required more preferred.
- Computer proficiency including MS Office (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel) and project management software is a must.
Nonessential Skills and Experience:
- Safety (OSHA, SDS), ANSI (RIA) standards.

- Be aware of OSHA & EPA laws and regulations as well as company rules and policies that pertain to this job;
- Work in a safe and environmentally friendly manner and observe all company EH&S procedures;
- Immediately notify the supervisor if there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly or if there are any questions regarding EH&S procedures; and
- Attend required EH&S training.
