Position Summary: Mechanical CAD Technician position for the generation of 2-D detail drawings and documentation of integrated tooling and equipment.

 

Role qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Associates degree in design/drafting engineering technology or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of mechanical detailing experience

Position responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings, schematics or specifications typically using computer-aided design software
  • Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies or to prepare drawings of unusual, complex or original designs which require a high degree of precision using computer-aided drafting (CAD) or computer-aided engineering (CAE) equipment
  • Creates, modifies and controls detailed two- and three-dimensional parts and assembly drawings from engineers' and technicians' sketches, plans and written and verbal instructions
  • Follows established drafting standards and procedures
  • Verify quantities and accuracy of detailing prints released
  • Thoroughly check all detailing work for accuracy before release
  • Follow general detailing and documentation methods
  • Advanced ability to detail tooling and simple equipment and verify quantities and completeness of releases
  • Basic ability to support machine shop as needed with drawings and assembly information
  • Basic 3-d parametric modeling capability in Creo/Solidworks software
  • Basic knowledge of Tennessee Rand equipment build standards and the QA ISO 9001 program including QP-01.03 Control of Drawings, QP-04.01D Engineering Processes, Work Instructions WI-21 (Assembly Practices) and WI-22 (Mechanical Design and Development Process)
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the job functions
  • Works under general supervision of supervisor
  • Good proficiency required in 2-D detailing in Creo, Solidworks, and AutoCAD
  • Relies on limited general instructions and CAD supervision to perform the job functions
  • Relies on limited experience and judgement to accomplish goals

 

Essential skills and experience:

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft office applications

 

Nonessential skills and preferred experience:

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Creo, Solidworks, or any 3D modeling package preferred
