Position Summary: Supports Manufacturing Engineering Department by assisting higher level Manufacturing Engineers with daily tasks and ongoing projects while working to become a Manufacturing Engineer III and training lower level Manufacturing Engineers.
Role qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience in a mechanical environment
- Capable of providing technical solutions to manufacturing requirements
- Communication, customer relationship, computer and organizational skills
Position responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
- Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
- Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
- Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness; and relay concerns to the design team.
- Communicate manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
- Works with all areas of engineering and production to provide the best manufacturing methods, and keeps Manufacturing Engineering Manager abreast of the status of established projects.
- Works with outside vendors, contractors, and with representatives of corporate manufacturing engineering and product engineering when needed.
- Investigates alternative solutions for given projects, and develops cost information for each. Makes recommendations to Manager and is responsible for the execution of projects.
- Designs equipment when necessary, specifies equipment to satisfy manufacturing requirements.
- As required, will write tool orders and requisition materials explaining the specific needs to outside vendors, the tool room, or other sources to assure the build or repair of required tools.
- Involved in assisting production on all shifts with complex problems through minor changes in a manufacturing process, to a major modification of an existing piece of equipment (mechanical or electrical). This includes the possible recommendation and installation of equipment and process qualification where applicable.
- Assigned to major projects such as the set-up of new pieces of equipment authorized for purchase or transferred from another plant in conjunction with the requirements for the project.
- Will contribute to each phase of the installation, set-up, debugging, implementation, safety and ergonomic review, qualification and training on the equipment before being released to production.
- Assist with the hands-on programming and training with robots and PLC as required in an effort to improve processes and best practices.
- Modify part drawings, design special projects and review ME problems at Building #2.
- Use simulation software to conduct offline robot programming, perform robot reach studies, create layout concepts and support sales and applications.
- Become proficient in the use of integration software including, but not limited to, Cimstation, RoboGuide, Robot Studio and Motosim; as well as CAD modeling software such as Creo.
- Able to debug and support Integration while working towards a continuous improvement of programming practices
- Act as Lead Integrator and support the project manager for special projects; including building show cells for and attending trade shows, training cells and learning new technology for projects.
- Recruits new talent for Human Resources, gives facility tours and acts as administrator for the apprenticeship program.
- Train and supervise on-the-job training for Manufacturing Engineer level 1 personnel.
- To obtain or build training equipment and track training progress within the integration department.
- Uphold continuous training implementation and coordinate and update RIA certifications.
- Attends Integration/Tooling audits, establishes audit lists, handles audit paperwork and works with the integration lead to help complete audit.
Essential skills and experience:
- A general knowledge of the Quality Program Manual
- A general knowledge of manufacturing processes
- A thorough knowledge of WI-40
- A thorough knowledge of Tennessee Rand Equipment Build Standards
- A thorough knowledge of Tennessee Rand Technical Guidelines
- An understanding of design for structural components and assemblies, specifically as they pertain to robotic integrated equipment.
