PURPOSE: To operate the extruder and related equipment.  To work as a team member, along with the Team lead, Set-up personnel, and the Electrode Boxer, to produce Manual Electrodes.  Reports directly to the Shift Foreman 24/27.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Ensure safety, workmanship, product quality, and productivity in the performance of the job. 
  • Verify that the chemical slugs are correct for the product being manufactured, load the extruder, place the slug tray identification tag on the spindle, when appropriate, and put the empty slug tray on the return track. 
  • Verify the core wire color code of each tote box or skid and load the core wire hopper. 
  • Place the identification tag on the spindle, when appropriate, and position the empty tote box on the return track. 
  • Change worn parts and make adjustments to feed rolls, extruder die, governor belt, flat belts, brush skinner, and printer. 
  • Inspect electrode for defects. 
  • Check eccentricity at least once per minute, more often when the eccentricity varies or when a new guide tube and or die has been installed. 
  • Follow procedures to handle rejected and set aside electrodes. 
  • Salvage electrode not meeting manufacturing specifications and re-use the bare core wire. 
  • Clear drier jams and change extruder dies and guide tubes as required. 
  • Use the appropriate marker to identify operator changes, die changes, re-dry material and other special situations. 
  • Changeover the extruding and skinning equipment when required. 
  • Review, understand, and follow the departmental procedures, Work Instructions, EW Specifications, SSW Specifications, Plant Rules and Regulations and the Job Hazard Analysis that are associated with the performance of this job. 
  • Obey all safety rules, maintain the cleanliness of the work area and perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Foreman 24/27.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a high school education or equivalent experience. 
  • Must be able to read, write and do general math well enough to keep the records associated with this job. 
  • Must be able to understand and interpret the specifications and procedures related to this job. 
  • Must be self-motivated, safety and quality conscious. 
  • Must be mechanically inclined and manually dexterous. 
  • Must be able to spot a problem quickly and know how to eliminate it.  Must have a working knowledge of the Extruding operation, be able to lift 80 lbs on a regular basis, and require minimal supervision.
