Senior MES Manager

PURPOSE: This position is responsible for the overall design, implementation and optimization of all advanced manufacturing systems within Operations.  This includes leading a team and overseeing the entire project from planning, execution and implementation and post-launch support.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES):

  • Manages and prioritizes all MES (Manufacturing Execution System) applications from definition to implementation to production support and optimization.
  • Serves as primary business analyst for production operations to identify ways to continuously improve processes through the application of MES technologies, with an emphasis on increasing productivity, reducing downtime, and improving product quality.
  • Translates business requirements into functional requirements and documents these in functional specifications for MES solutions.
  • Develops project charters relating to MES/MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) applications including project scope & methodology, application architecture, hardware/ software selection, installation/operation/maintenance standards and expectations.
  • Participates in and leads strategic initiatives for production operations.
  • Manages internal and external partnerships including providing liaison to vendors and corporate IT, and escalating/resolving challenges and issues.
  • Defines testing and validation procedures to be applied during multi-vendor software integration and systems’ acceptance tests.
  • Provides thought leadership on MES technologies and trends and how these may be best leveraged by Lincoln Electric.
  • Manages the checkout and commissioning of all MES/MOM applications and the end-to-end transactions with all shop floor applications.
  • Actively manages, prioritizes, and implements a continuous queue of MES system enhancement requests initiated by operations.
  • Tracks all performance or outage events, facilitates Root Cause Analysis investigations, and ensures all issues are closed after being addressed with measurable success
  • Continuously monitors MES solutions in production to ensure service levels are maintained and business needs are met.
  • Identifies methods to optimize in-application SQL statements to ensure maximum application performance and availability.
  • Profiles server resource usage, and optimizes as necessary in close cooperation with the corporate IT infrastructure team.
  • Reviews and understands database version enhancements and application techniques.
  • Collaborates with other team members, production supervision, middle management, executive management, and other stakeholders to effectively champion MES efforts.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed in support of Lincoln Electric’s strategic plan.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical or Information Technology preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years manufacturing industry experience with shop floor integration and controls, systems development and programming
  • Minimum of 5 years experience serving as business process functional analyst and system and/or application developer.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of database architecture and optimization of database queries
  • Current knowledge of best practices as related to rational databases
  • Developed leadership and people management skills required
  • Analytical expertise to identify and resolve problem by recommending and implementing creative solutions.
