Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary: The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and support of all mechanical components in a robotic welding cell including tooling, machine design, and system integration.  Beginning with the quoting phase and continuing through design, assembly, and field support, the Senior Mechanical Engineer works to ensure customer needs are met and company goals are achieved by developing mechanical designs that are practical, robust, and adhere to budget and schedule constraints.  Standard and reusable designs are developed as well as custom projects-specific equipment.  Communication, collaboration and creating solutions with other engineers, customers, project managers, sales, purchasing, vendors, and assembly personnel is essential. 


The senior-level Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing the Lead Mechanical Engineer with the ongoing status of assigned engineering projects. The person in this position must be capable of leading other Engineers on design teams and work with minimal or no daily task direction.


Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline will be considered.
  • 15 years’ experience in Machine Design or combination of Machine Design & Tooling Design
  • Solidworks 3D modeling software
  • Drafting standards including GD&T
  • Knowledge of welding, machining, and other fabrication processes
  • Pneumatic/hydraulic system design
  • Engineering analysis including F.E.A. and frequency analysis
  • Ability to concept and estimate costs of proposed solutions/designs
  • Written and verbal communication with customers, vendors, engineers, assembly personnel, and management
  • Design for manufacture experience
  • Mechanical assembly and troubleshooting
  • Robot programming or other automation experience
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed; travel is occasional

  • Designs, develops and tests projects as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Engineer
  • Creates new and modifies existing drawings
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal skills,
  • Relates well to others; works well in a team environment
  • Other duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Lead Mechanical Engineer

  • Participate in the engineering design component of project goals for Fort Collins
  • Remain a competent, professional staff member capable of meeting established production and quality goals in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Utilize problem identification and resolution systems.
  • Keep the Lead Mechanical Engineer informed through timely utilization of verbal and written reports.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

  • Physical demands:  When testing equipment this individual may have to occasionally lift 25 pounds and be able to reach, bend, squat and stand.
  • Work environment: Work is a mix of sedentary, standing and walking. Manual dexterity and visual acuity is needed to use testing equipment and measuring devises and tools. Traveling is minimal; hours may be irregular. The noise level is usually moderate.
