Sr. Mechanical Designer

Position Summary

Coordinate and lead product design activities including: concept development, design execution, and maintenance of design standards.

The selected individual will plan and perform activities required for on-time delivery of standard designs that conform to customer specification as well as the company’s budget.  


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the developing and maintaining of Engineering and Product Standards.
  • Lead development of standard designs as required regarding quality, completeness, schedule and cost.
  • Assist designers is selecting the correct concepts and design techniques
  • Work cross-functionally to provide technical support to estimating, sales and production.
  • Represent mechanical engineering in cross-functional activities incl. design and build review, internal and external buy-off.
  • Stay abreast of current technologies.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement with machining and assembly process (DFM/DFA).  
  • Coordinate with Purchasing in selecting qualified vendors for outsourcing of standard components
  • Assure accuracy and availability of design standards
  • Adhere to all safety initiatives to assure safe working conditions.
  • Supports Machinists, Engineers, Management, and other functions.
  • Make recommendations on productivity improvements in processing of parts, thru design and machine set ups
  • All other duties as assigned


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required. 
  • 7+ years’ mechanical design experience in product manufacturing  
  • Must have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be capable of interfacing with personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Expert knowledge of 2D and 3D engineering designs and practices
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing factory equipment, systems and processes.
  • Desire to grow with the company and assume increasing responsibility.
  •  Supervision training.
  • FMEA, Equipment Capability, R&M
  • SPC and Machine Capability training.
  • FEA analysis


Reporting to this position:  No direct reports, but may back-up the supervisor as required
