Mechanical Engineering Intern
Job Summary
We are recruiting a mechanical engineering intern to work within our engineering department. The engineering intern will support our engineering teams to design, develop, test, and validate automated plasma cutting systems and complimentary products.
The successful candidate will be creative, inquisitive, analytical, diligently focused on new products and upgrades to our existing portfolio. Responsibilities, but not limited to, assist in full cycle product development from ideation to launch, applying mechanical knowledge. This position will also assist with creation and execution of system test plans, complete design for manufacture reviews and help maintain mature product documentation.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Strong mechanical problem solving skills with ability to translate into products and product improvements
- Use analytics and models to support design decisions
- Develop design documents, 3D-models, prints, and BOM’s for mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Update and maintain mature product documentation
- Evaluate system performance against competitive products
- Provide technical support to other departments as required
- Perform general shop duties as assigned and assist in other areas as required
- Interpret and apply compliance requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement programs
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements
- All other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Enrolled in an accredited engineering program; Junior or Senior level candidates preferred
- 0-3 years of engineering experience; two years of academic coursework required
- Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD tools. (Solid Works, Solid Edge, AutoCad, AutoCad Electrical)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products; Excel, Word, Power point
- Strong mathematics and analytical skills
- Ability to utilize shop procedures and mathematics to execute job
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and possess a sense of urgency
Physical Demand and Work Environment
- Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is occasionally required to sit for extended periods of time; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Repetition with activity; computer work.
- Manufacturing environment; may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, and machinery with moving parts.
