Jr Buyer/Purchasing Assistant

Arc Products, a subsidiary of Lincoln Electric, designs and manufactures automated welding systems focused on fixed automation, orbital TIG and orbital MIG. Located in San Diego, California, Arc Products engineers and manufactures standard and custom automation systems for simple to complex applications. 

 

Reporting to the Department Manager of Arc Products, the Jr. Buyer/Purchasing Assistant is responsible for purchasing, compiling, and records maintenance of records of business transactions such as the purchasing of raw materials, products, tools, and office services and activities to guarantee effective return on capital; participates as directed by management in strategies and actions for the accomplishment of the division’s production goals and objectives in conjunction with the minimizing of manufacturing errors.   

 

Position Summary:

The Jr. Buyer/Purchasing Assistant helps maintain our supply inventory levels and negotiate deals with potential vendors. Learning company purchasing policies and procedures, and maintaining supply inventory levels is required for effective company operation. The successful candidate will also be charged with conducting regular price comparisons to ensure that the company is always getting the best price for each product that is purchased.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None – This position has no direct report.

 

Essential Key Responsibilities, Duties & Abilities:

The essential functions are to be done personally or assigned to the department’s personnel and include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Key Responsibilities . . .
  • to work with a minimum of direction or supervision to accomplish all of the duties delegated by the Purchasing Manager.
  • to know the accepted business purchasing methods and know and conduct the purchasing policies and procedures of this organization, and to act in accordance with the best business purchasing standards as currently practiced or as directed by the Purchasing Manager. 
  • to know or quickly learn enough about all the products and services with which he or she will transact business and to buy those products or services with the most favorable terms and conditions. The Buyer must become familiar with and for the people in this organization with whom transactions will be conducted and to know enough about the business and products of our organization to convey any unrestricted and required information accurately to suppliers.
  • to know about the industry with which he or she deals. That knowledge should include who the major suppliers are, the economic status of those suppliers and the industry, and current and expected developments within the industry.
  • to help other department personnel determine the most suitable product or service to meet their needs considering the objectives of the entire organization.
  • to find the best source to meet this organization's objectives, to negotiate the most favorable agreement possible, and to prepare the documentation for that agreement in accordance with all laws and so that the agreement protects this organization's interest.
  • to follow-up or expedite orders to see that they are delivered as scheduled.
  • to resolve discrepancies or negotiate settlements to the best possible long-term advantage of this organization.
