Position Overview
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for preparing fixtures, tooling, and detailed working diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices. As well as, providing dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information. In this position, you must be able to create fixture designs, and drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Your Responsibilities/Essential Functions May Include:
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools, and controls, according to engineering sketches and design proposals
- Lay out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, engineering drawings, ideas, and related design data to determine factors affecting component designs
- Develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment
- Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
- Consolidate details from a variety of sketches, make necessary calculations, and prepare drawings with view and dimensions in accordance with engineering standards
- Inspect work when fit-up issues occur
- Perform any other job responsibilities directed by management as business dictates.
- Participates in safety and skill training and demonstrates a high regard for safety at all times
- Utilizes lean tools: 6s, visual factory concepts in maintaining order, cleanliness, and a safe work environment
- Participate in all required skills training and educational courses
- Must be willing and able to wear required personal protective equipment while performing the job as required by the company
Candidates should have an exemplary work ethic and meet these minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Vocational School and or Technical School Graduate preferred but may substitute for working job knowledge
- Preferred: Two years drafting degree/certification
- AutoCAD experience is a plus
- Strong Knowledge of Solid Works
- Ability to operate a manual Mill and Lathe equipment
- Ability to read, blueprints and diagrams
- Ability to use hand tools and various power tools
- Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees
