Are you looking for a great place to start your career where you can learn the ins and outs of the business before getting right into your role?  Harris is seeking an Engineering Trainee who will focus on the equipment side of the business with room for growth and development.  

 

 

Purpose

The Engineering Trainee Program is a great entry point into a career in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, and quality engineering. Throughout the 6 month training program trainees will learn about mechanical design, manufacturing engineering, process improvement, lean-six sigma projects, and quality improvement, a great foundation to start any engineering career.

 

Trainee Program Overview

The hired trainee will:

  • Complete a 4-6-month engineering program at our Gainesville Georgia location. Following completion of program, you will be located in Gainesville, GA.
  • Focus on 2 key areas: Research and Development and Manufacturing Operations within our Equipment businesses
  • Develop corporate communication skills
  • Develop time management strategies for small to large scale projects
  • Understand how the role is an integral piece to achieving company goals

Consumables

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Harris Products Group equipment, consumables, accessories, etc.
  • Collaborate with Harris Products Group engineering departments and understand their functions within the business.
  • Utilize mechanical design concepts on precision tooling and machine design
  • Apply design, manufacturing and fabrication knowledge and learn tools such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, Autodesk Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, etc.
  • Earn certification in lean six-sigma.
  • Gather and analyze data to improve manufacturing processes, ex: cycle time reduction.
  • Apply lean principles to identify and eliminate wastes within the process.
  • Understand manufacturing process and apply problem solving techniques such as cause and effect diagram, 5 Why's, etc. to improve overall process and product quality.
  • Research, analyze, and present on findings and recommend solutions to leadership teams

Equipment

  • Develop comprehensive understanding of engineering systems (ex: work flows for engineering changes, document creation & control)
  • Learn about new product development methodologies (ex: NPD idea hopper, MSC, stage gate project management)
  • Understand manufacturing processes and capabilities (ex: machining, assembly, testing, and quality control)
  • Understand product costs and cost factors (ex: materials, labor, burden rate, and supply chain)
  • Learn about the company's complete consumables and equipment portfolio and how to judge
  • performance and determine key performance factors
  • Understand the company's strengths, weaknesses, competition, and competitive advantage

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in  Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering required
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Interpersonal skills (ex: going out on the plant floor and talking with machine operators etc.)
  • Ability to work cross functionally
  • Growth mindset
  • Desire to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to stand for long hours in the manufacturing plant and be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work in the United States on a full time, permanent basis
