PURPOSE: The job consists of supervising engineers, technologists, and technicians, designing and directing QA programs to detect and prevent quality related problems, and supporting continuous improvement activities. Reports to QA Manager or Director.       

 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Assists the Quality Assurance Manager and Director to plan, coordinate and direct QA programs.
  • Supervises the work of engineers, technologists, and technicians within the department.
  • Advises on and Manages Measurement Devices and Systems Selection, Application and Utilization.
  • Develops Measurement Standards and Techniques.
  • Supports Machine Division with PPAP, TV&V, and MSA.
  • Develops and Implements Measurement Training.
  • Recommends and Assists with Capability Studies.
  • Drives Automation of Quality Checks.
  • Interacts extensively with other departments to ensure that quality objectives are considered in ongoing projects.
  • Identifies, designs, and directs quality assurance projects to detect and prevent quality related problems.
  • Administer Statistical Process Control techniques, when beneficial.
  • Develops Calibration Standards and Manages Calibration of Mechanical and Electrical Devices and Tools.
  • Specifies and provides equipment and work instructions to assure that analyses will be done accurately and efficiently.
  • Helps to troubleshoot and resolve daily shop problems.
  • Is familiar with all relevant specifications, procedures and Plant Rules and Regulations used in the Quality Assurance, Production and R&D departments.
  • Implement ISO 9000 standards.
  • Champions the Continuous Improvement initiatives. Drives the team to develop, work towards, and achieve future state visions for the department and the Cleveland Operations.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Engineering or other technical degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience; 3 years Supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of Quality Management System tools, Measurement Systems and Devices, Calibration, Continuous Improvement methodologies (6 Sigma, Lean), Root Cause Analysis techniques, and an understanding of manufacturing processes and methods.
  • Ability to train Production and Quality Assurance personnel.
  • Ability to observe problems, situations, and people in all areas of manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, as well as production computer systems).
  • Excellent organizational skills to handle a constantly changing set of priorities.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Knowledge of products produced in the applicable area of the Cleveland Operations.
  • Knowledge of measurement methodologies, including tools, analysis and process capability.
  • Knowledge of new products development and stage gate processes.
  • For Machine division QA: Experience with Printed Circuit board manufacturing processes, power electronics, powder and epoxy coating systems, automated testing of electrical products, gas and diesel engines, supply chain quality; non-conformance inspection, data entry and analysis, measurement systems and calibration.
  • For Consumables division QA: Experience with wire drawing, packaging and cut-to-length, copper plating, steel and chemical analysis tools and methods; non-conformance inspection, data entry and analysis.
