Position Summary:  Under the direction of the Controls Engineering Manager, the Electrical Designer will create electrical and associated (pneumatic, hydraulic, gas) drawings.


Role qualifications:

  • Must have 5+ years of electrical design experience using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Must be familiar NFPA 70 (NEC) and CSA design specifications.  Knowledge of CE specifications a plus.
  • Must be able to perform design calculations, such as transformer sizing, panel heat calculations, and determining pneumatic consumption.
  • Experience with weld cell design is a plus.


Position responsibilities:

  • Use AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical and pneumatic schematic drawings.
  • Use those schematic drawings to generate BOMs (Bill of Materials) for the project.
  • Submit BOMs to the purchasing department in order to procure material for build.
  • When necessary, work directly with the panel build source to make timely updates to the design.
  • Interpret mechanical cylinder & switch layout drawings.
  • Attend controls kickoff meetings which define the scope of the electrical drawings.
  • Review customer specifications as they pertain to electrical design.
  • Interface with the customer (through project management) to provide approval drawings, design updates, and deviation requests.
  • Work with estimating to develop budgets for quoting purposes.
  • Review electrical designs produced by others.
  • Attend and contribute to design review meetings.
  • Attend and contribute to “Lessons Learned” meetings.


Essential skills and experience:

  • Associate’s degree in CAD or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience using AutoCAD Electrical.  E-Plan experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize work.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Self-starter capable executing multiple assigned tasks.
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekend, and holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to read mechanical layout and detail drawings a plus.
