Position Summary

Under the direction of the Controls Manager, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing PLC & Robot programs for machine control

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design PLC and Robot programs for special machines, welding cells, and material handling equipment
  • Establish communication to all devices; such as PLC, HMI, robot, I/O, drive, etc.
  • Debug PLC logic and robot programming
  • Ensure safety circuits operate as intended
  • Troubleshoot safety and electrical circuits as needed
  • Provide start-up support at the customer site

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent related experience
  • 2-5 years of PLC / Robot programming experience
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs using RSLogix 5000 and Studio 5000
  • Able to program Allen Bradley HMIs using Factory Talk View
  • Robot programming experience (Fanuc and / or Yaskawa Motoman)
  • Capable of reading electrical schematics and debugging electrical circuitry
  • Thorough knowledge of safety circuit design requirements
  • Experience with industrial networking protocols such as Ethernet I/P, Profinet, DeviceNet, Etc.
  • Familiar with commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in machine control programming
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Strong work ethic (self-starter, responsible, follow through on assignments)
  • Self-motivated, able to act independently and set and manage priorities
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Able to travel up to 20%; Some International travel required (Passport required)
  • Experience with robotic welding (arc, laser, resistance)
  • Familiar with Proface HMI programming
  • Programming experience with Siemens PLCs using Step 7, and Siemens HMIs using WinCC
  • Strong knowledge of robotic software options, especially external axis control
  • Has a general knowledge of AC/DC power, motors, drives, industrial controls, pneumatic valves, and sensors
