POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing and managing the system/positioner engineering and detailing departments from project conception, design and analysis to release and build.
EDUCATION
B.S. Degree from a four-year college or university and equivalent experience in the field of equipment design.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Incumbent must have a minimum of five years plus experience in mechanical engineering design with previous supervisory responsibilities. Capable of providing technical solutions to manufacturing requirements. Comprehensive understanding of design for components and assemblies, specifically as they pertain to robotic integrated equipment. Demonstrated communication, organization, and customer relationship skills. Demonstrated team building and leadership skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, 2-D and 3-D design software required. Design analysis software, documents management software, experience required. Incumbent will have extensive knowledge or experience and proficiency in the applicable design fields. The incumbent will have a comprehensive understanding of design for structural components and assemblies, specifically as they pertain to robotic integrated equipment, welding and tooling.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to the following)
The System/Positioner Engineering Manager will work directly system/positioner engineers as well as design detailers on all aspects of the design process.
Responsible for directing and managing the system/positioner engineering and detailing departments in the research, design, analysis, test and records related to product development as it relates to assigned projects by the Management Team.
Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports of the system/positioner engineering and detailing departments, including creation and evaluation of goals.
Champion continued performance and improvement of system/positioner Engineering and detailing departments.
Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for the system/positioner engineering and detailing Departments.
Works with both project teams and our customers from conception to release and build.
Interview, recommend for hire, discipline and, if needed, recommend for termination direct reports and system/positioner engineering and detailing departments.
Recommend promotions and raises and/or other departmental changes for direct reports and system/positioner engineering and detailing departments.
Attends and leads management meetings.
Participates in project kick-off meetings, internal design reviews, and customer design reviews as deemed necessary.
Provide final approval of all system/positioner designs before fabrication or purchasing using established Vizient processes.
Manage design budgets throughout the engineering process. Review any issues with upper management.
Responsible for the assignment to manage the design, test and release of projects.
Responsible for the assignment to manage development of layout and design of new and existing solutions using all applicable engineering design tools.
Ensures the completion of design changes on existing and new tooling, welding and robotic solutions.
Ensures all engineering team members learn and follow Vizient equipment build standards and Vizient technical guidelines.
Ensure all engineering team members are familiar with Vizient quality procedures.
Approve vacation requests for engineering team members.
Work with all engineering personnel to ensure consistent design practices are being followed (Vizient or customer specific).
Provides instruction and guidance to engineering personnel in regards to new products out on the market for system and positioner design improvements. This may include meeting with vendors and scheduling various “Lunch and Learns” on an as needed basis
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for working with production, suppliers, safety, sales, service, etc. in order to provide engineering related information to meet project goals assigned
Provide product technical information and specifications for manuals and marketing materials.
Provide support to the Service Department including unscheduled design support and/or service trips as designated by upper Vizient management.
Responsible for working as part of a project team whether as one or with others in completing project goals. These goals are, but not limited to, meeting scheduled dates, meeting performance, reliability, target cost, and quality objectives as set by Vizient management.
Work closely with fabrication, assembly and integration supervisors to make continuous design improvements for ease of manufacturing, design simplicity or cost reductions.
Work closely with Application Engineering department to ensure projects are being executed within scope and function / design intent information is being shared during the design phase of a project.
Ensures all engineering calculations in, component sizing, dimensioning, tolerancing, etc. and maintains accurate records of those calculations for costing analysis and test results.
Responsible for working with production with design for manufacturability in mind on new product designs.
Works closely with production during the first run of a new product for direction in making and assembling parts and to correct problems that arise during the production process.
Review customer specifications and interpret requirements as required
Ensure engineering support during assembly and commissioning of equipment
Ensure complete and accurate documentation upon completion of projects
