Position Summary: Conceptual and detailed engineering of custom robotic work cells and industrial tooling using 3-D CAD software (i.e., ProE / Creo and SolidWorks) while leading departmental designers. Act as mentor to departmental designers by directing and / or guiding mechanical engineering items needed to design, build, ship and service products. A System/Positioner Engineering Lead may work on multiple complex designs at a time and has the capability to perform all mechanical engineering tasks on a project from beginning to completion in addition to providing relevant, job-related direction / guidance to designers while maintaining professional work relationships with all managers / supervisors across the organization.



  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Mechanical aptitude for engineering custom / prototype mechanisms;
  • Ability to complete engineering calculations (static, dynamic systems) and correlate resources for validation tools, if required (i.e., reach analysis / simulation, FEA simulation (ANSYS), engineering calculations);
  • Collaborate and monitor project progression (i.e., communicating with designer(s) daily), as required;
  • Monitor process documentation and project status (i.e., verify Tool Design Checklist completed) including obtaining any necessary signatures (i.e., Ready to Detail Sign-Off);
  • Monitor related cost throughout project (i.e., review weekly hours budget) including identifying situations requiring cost projection and deviations from established quote (and customer purchase order) while encouraging designers to take initiatives to meet challenging project timelines and budgets (hours and materials);
  • Interaction and involvement with related individuals during fabrication and demonstration of equipment;
  • Frequent interaction with customer during development of tooling related products;
  • Assist in providing mechanical layouts and details to production;
  • Assist designers to provide technical assistance to Estimating, Sales, Production and Service, as required;
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively in team environment, which may involve Machine (builders), Project Management, Engineering Teams, Management and support functions; and
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.


Experience / Skills:

  • Preferred candidates will have three (3) years minimum 3-D modeling experience and a degree in mechanical engineering or similar field;
  • Proven design experience with Industrial Automation preferred;
  • Effective communication and time management skills required;
  • Commitment to teamwork and proven ability to maintain professional work relationships with peers and supervisors / managers across the organization; and
  • Intermediate computer proficiency including MS Office (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel) and project management software is a must.

  • Safety (OSHA, SDS), ANSI (RIA) standards.

  • Attend required EH&S training.
