Position Summary: The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design and support of all mechanical components in a robotic welding cell including tooling, machine design, and system integration.  Beginning with the quoting phase and continuing through design, assembly, and field support, the M.E. works to ensure customer needs are met and company goals are achieved by developing mechanical designs that are practical, robust, and adhere to budget and schedule constraints.  Standard and reusable designs are developed as well as custom projects specific equipment.  Communication and coordination with other engineers, customers, project managers, the purchasing department, vendors, and assembly personnel is essential. 

 

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for providing the Lead Mechanical Engineer with the ongoing status of assigned engineering projects. The person in this position must facilitate the team concept.

 

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience will be considered. 

Mechanical Aptitude: familiar with mechanical systems, simple electronics and pneumatics, ability to read diagrams

Machining Aptitude: familiar with metal cutting and forming processes

Experience with 3D CAD Software and modeling, preferably Solidworks

Detail oriented, they will be helping with the meticulous drawings and tooling Bill of Material, unique to each job

Ability to be flexible and have good time management skills. When we are busy they might be 100% on Cleveland projects, when we are slow they must flex to Bettendorf tooling or mechanical needs

Technical Communication, ability to model tooling components on prescribed constraints of cost, sizes, material, or function

Good communication and organizational skills required

Must be able to work flexible hours as needed; travel is occasional

Qualifications Desired:

Pneumatic/hydraulic system design

Cost and schedule estimation

Mechanical assembly and troubleshooting

Robot programming or other automation experience

One year experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Support Tooling Quoting by drawing concepts and making renderings for turn-key cells, based on customer Part Files

Support Tooling Execution by Detailing Components and working on Tooling Assembly/Layouts

Physical demands:  When testing equipment this individual may have to occasionally lift 25 pounds and be able to reach, bend, squat and stand.

Work environment: Work is a mix of sedentary, standing and walking. Manual dexterity and visual acuity is needed to use testing equipment and measuring devises and tools. Traveling is minimal; hours may be irregular. The noise level is usually moderate.
