Purpose
Lincoln Electric is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Digital Controls/Firmware group in our R&D department. This role provides leadership to a team of engineers developing firmware for high-performance embedded control systems in welding, plasma cutting, and EV charging applications. The team uses an agile development approach and collaborates closely with electrical and mechanical engineers. This Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Welding Technology and will manage team priorities, ensure successful execution of projects, develop engineering talent, and coordinate resources across departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Team Leadership and People Management
- Lead and manage a team of engineers working on embedded firmware and digital control systems.
- Manage team priorities, assign work, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Support employee growth and career development.
- Conduct goal setting, performance evaluations, and developmental planning for direct reports.
- Execution and Accountability
- Ensure work aligns with departmental objectives, business goals, and shared project timelines.
- Oversee and improve team workflows including agile development practices, sprint planning, and project tracking.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate team activities with other engineering disciplines, product development teams, and manufacturing and support functions.
- Technical Guidance and Continuous Improvement
- Provide high-level technical guidance and direction when needed.
- Support decision-making around architecture, design, and implementation with subject matter experts.
- Evaluate new tools, platforms, and methodologies to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
- Promote best practices in firmware development, testing, and documentation.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering projects or managing professional employees.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, coordinate work activities, and manage performance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments.
