Scope

  • Responsible for the timely and proper lubrication and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts.
  • Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader.
  • Reports directly to the department Foreman.

Responsibilities

Primary duties to perform this job include:

  • Performs all task under limited supervision.
  • Provides training and assistance to less experienced Oilers.
  • Leads, organizes, maintains, and ensures completion of a lubrication schedule.
  • Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
  • Evaluates and recommends equipment lubrication schedule per experience and manufacturers recommendations.  
  • Order and maintain oils, greases, and solvents necessary to complete task.
  • Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed.
  • Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Foreman, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
  • Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, may be required to work weekends and holidays as required.
  • Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
  • Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor. 
  • Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.
  • Other duties as assigned by the department Foreman.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Understand the Company’s EHS Policy and how it relates to this job.
  • Be aware of OSHA and EPA laws and regulations as well as the Company’s Plant Rules and Regulations that pertain to this job.
  • Work in a safe manner and observe all company EHS Procedures. 
  • Follow safe equipment operating procedures and only operate equipment when guards are in place and in good condition.  
  • Know that the company EHS Procedures, Company Specifications, Work Instructions, Plant Rules and Regulations, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) can be accessed by supervision and are located at Security, and are available upon request.
  • Immediately notify the Foreman of any safety hazard, equipment not operating correctly, or if there are any questions regarding EHS procedures. 
  • PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT – Follow the personal protective equipment policy detailed in Plant Rules & Regulations EHS560 & EHS580.

Skills, Aptitude and Abilities

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Must have an advanced knowledge of proper industrial lubrication techniques and applications.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to understand hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Must have a basic ability to diagnose the root cause of a problem and adjust lubrication as required.
  • Must have a basic level of knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings and service manuals.
  • Excellent attendance required.
  • Must possess good organizational and communication skills.
  • Team oriented, self-motivated, safety and quality conscious; requiring minimal supervision.
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • May be required to operate basic shop equipment (hoist, forklift, scissor lift, etc.)
  • Must be able to work in confined areas, climb ladders, and work at heights of 50 feet.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Must be willing to continuously improve technical knowledge.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret the specifications and procedures related to this job.

Training

  • As directed by the department Foreman in conjunction with experienced personnel.
  • The department Foreman shall ensure that the employee receives the following training at the appropriate times per the Maintenance Department Training Matrix.
  • The department Foreman shall determine when an individual has completed the training and is qualified to assume these responsibilities.
