PURPOSE: To participate as an engineer on the development of Lincoln’s Education products, this includes the VRTEX, WeldBooth Assist, and RealWeld products. This will involve the design of new mechanical, electrical, and software systems pertaining to the utilization of technologies to revolutionize welding training.
JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Work in an R&D environment on the design, development, support, and improvement of Lincoln’s new welding training products
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of engineering and scientific principles, practices, and procedures, within the field of specialization, to the completion of difficult assignments
- Assists in developing the total system architecture for a project with internal and external partners
- Contributes to the proper lean manufacturing and design principles
- Work can be electrical, mechanical, software, and industrial in nature depending on the given product
- Interact professionally and effectively as a liaison between both internal and external resources such as equipment suppliers, consultants, other engineering groups, and technical organizations
- Establish standards and methodologies for, and conduct evaluations of product performance; develop/refine test methods, as applicable, to support new and existing product evaluation
- Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity
- Execute project work including writing, submitting, and following up with DFMEA, CARs, CRMs, and PNs
- Provide customer support and machine diagnostics for new as well as legacy systems
- Evaluate systems for quality improvements and cost reductions
- Work with other internal stakeholders to support production lines
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum four-year Engineering degree is required. Mechanical or Software is desired
- 5+ years of professional experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters
- Excellent organizational skills
- Maintain records of work in process and documents appropriately within the department systems (ES Reports, Quip,)
- Self-Motivated to drive the development of new technology
- Knowledge of key compliance certifications (CE, CSA, RoHS, FCC, ECA, EMC)
- Understanding of computer hardware pertaining to video gaming applications a plus
- Understanding of virtual reality hardware and software a plus
- Linux experience is a plus
- Develop, troubleshoot, and debug software algorithms a plus
- Initiate a software planning and management process a plus
- Documentation on software features & algorithms a plus
