PURPOSE: This advanced engineering position leverages expertise in reliability engineering tools and methods to continuously improve the design and validation of new products and subsystems, changes to existing products, critical manufacturing and supplier processes and reliability modeling and prediction.  In addition, it will lead the increase in organizational awareness and training in reliability engineering techniques that are practical and most applicable to our organization’s goal of achieving significant results in product reliability.   

 

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Effectively apply reliability engineering methods to achieve significant results in product reliability that are practical and relevant to our organization.
  • Facilitate and train in reliability engineering methods such as FMEA, DRBFM, SRM, DFR, LDA, ALT, RCA, HALT, DFM/DFA, FTA, Robust Design, POF modeling, SPC, DOE, DVP&R, etc.
  • Create and maintain a reliability center of expertise “homeroom” to support the bodies of knowledge in selected reliability methods, tools and resources.
  • Assist in engineering safe, high quality, cost effective, ergonomic, and environmentally responsible validation methods for component, subsystem and final machine qualifications.
  • Collaborate with reliability colleagues, business unit leaders, R&D, Manufacturing, Production, Supply, Quality and Service Departments to establish and achieve reliability objectives.
  • Facilitate the processes and execution of DFMEA, PFMEA, DRBFM, and hazard analysis.
  • Act as reliability advisor to test labs, suppliers, consultants, sales representatives etc.
  • Improve efficiency and effectiveness of validation plans and methods based on warranty feedback, use of test acceleration techniques, new technology and compliance regulations.
  • Oversee setup and configuration of test environments and systems under test as needed.
  • Work on warranty reduction, test correlation and statistical reliability prediction projects.
  • Employ lessons learned from RCA, FTA, FMEA, Warranties etc. to systemic improvement.
  • Standardize test documentation formats and implement retention policy.
  • Identify and address extreme failure modes using methods such as HALT, ALT and analysis.
  • Assist in development of design guides, design review check lists and general machine FMEAs.
  • Develop predictive reliability and correlation models bases on warranty, test data and PoF.
  • Establish strategic reliability related projects aligned with corporate goals; substantiate benefits.
  • Support strategic projects lead by others that align with corporate goals or programs.
  • Review progress and perform other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • 12 plus years’ experience required
  • Master’s degree in Reliability Engineering required
  • Engineering and Six Sigma experience preferable but not required
  • Trained in reliability engineering methods such as FMEA, DRBFM, SRM, DfR, LDA, ALT, RCA, HALT, DFM/DFA, FTA, Robust Design, PoF modeling, SPC, DOE and others.
  • Strong grasp of statistical test analysis and validation techniques
  • Ability to perform hands-on work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization and teaching  skills
