R & D Engineer

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for working with Research & Development (R&D) on the design, specifications and documentation of components, assembles and products such as inverters, engine welders and plasma cutters.

 

JOB DUTIES:  

  • Develops new welding machines, software, welding processes and/or test methodologies in accordance with company policies/procedures and in consideration of: 
  • Market needs, requiring direct interface with customers, sales and marketing
  • Industry codes, standards, and specifications
  • Performs, instructs and supervises testing of new designs.
  • Creates software, ancillary equipment and procedures to link Lincoln electrodes and equipment into turnkey welding process products
  • Works with Manufacturing and Marketing to improve quality, manufacturability and value of new designs.
  • Interacts with suppliers, customers, distributors, and sales engineers on an occasional basis.
  • Coordinates activities of technical support personnel.
  • Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involves limited responsibility. 
  • Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.
     

QUALIFICATIONS (includes education, skills and aptitude):

  • Minimum four-year B.S. engineering degree  required. Degree in Welding Engineering preferred.
  • 1-3 years engineering experience
  • Developed written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Established organization skills.
  • Ability to handle a constantly changing set of priorities.
  • Initiative to take ownership of product designs.
  • Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
