PURPOSE: To assist R&D Engineers in the development of new products and support of mature products by providing high-quality welds and evaluations.
JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Achieve/maintain qualifications for the welding processes/consumables/positions used in standard test welds and fabrication.
- Welds standardized test plates to specification.
- Conducts and documents a variety of standardized tests; prepares routine test specimens using established procedures and/or drawings; sets up and operates standard test equipment; records test data.
- Evaluates consumables and provides detailed feedback on performance.
- Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures and performs mathematical calculations.
- Provides technical support to engineers and scientists.
- Responsible for executing work in accordance with instructions provided.
- Performs additional tasks as required by engineers or supervisor.
- Responsible for the safe operation, cleanliness and routine maintenance of all assigned laboratory equipment.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- [Technician II] Vocational Training and 3+ years’ experience required; or GED with 5+ years in related field. (Does not require a university degree).
- [Technician III] Vocational Training and 5+ years’ experience required; or GED with 7+ years in related field. (Does not require a university degree).
- Understanding of arc welding, including demonstrated ability to weld at least one of the following: SMAW (manual), GMAW (semiautomatic and/or automatic), GTAW (manual), SAW (automatic) and/or FCAW (semiautomatic and/or automatic).
- Applies experience and skills to complete assigned work within own area of expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain neat, accurate records.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Has working knowledge and skills to perform a defined set of analytical/scientific methods or operational processes.
- Mechanical aptitude to mechanize welding processes and troubleshoot when required.
- Ability to develop a positive and cooperative work environment with colleagues and supervisors.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Understand and follow all procedures, specifications, and Plant Rules and Regulations associated with the performance of this job.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Selected candidate’s Job Level and Pay Grade will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.
