Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Robotic Assembly Technicians support the integration of large, custom robotic welding and cutting systems through mechanical assembly, electrical assembly and troubleshooting, runoff, and equipment teardown. 


Required Competencies:

Occupational Competencies

  • Equipment: Able to safely and appropriately assemble equipment.  Proficient with maintenance, efficiency, repair, cleaning, testing, teardown, and installation.
  • Mathematics: Competent in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes and spaces. Able to take simple measurements and perform basic mathematical operations (e.g., addition, subtraction, division) in order to translate a blueprint into production.
  • Computer Fluency: Able to effectively work in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook to perform tasks (e.g., data analysis and writing). 

Foundational Competencies

  • Critical Thinking: Able to see new ways of doing things, not just accepting the status-quo.  Thinking through the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions. Understand how the current assembly process works and be proactive and open to improvements.
  • Active Listening: Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate and do not interrupt at inappropriate times.  Able to accurately synthesize and share what is being said; take notes when appropriate.
  • Monitor/assess performance of yourself, other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Able to accept feedback and, ideally, seek out feedback.  Willing to ask for help and find the appropriate people to ask for support.
  • Operation and Control: Control and, as needed, adjust equipment or systems. Follow standardized work instructions and company processes.
  • Ensure the physical safety of oneself and one’s co-workers at all times. Follow all safety related instructions from supervisors and co-workers. Follow all safety-related process guidelines. 


Preferred Competencies:

Foundational Competencies

  • Manufacturing Processes: Understand the basic manufacturing process from end-to-end. Ideally, possess a basic familiarity with at least one quality improvement process such as Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Quality Control Analysis: Analyze the quality of one’s work to meet the necessary quality and performance standards; track defects, check parts and meet time standard goals. Be mindful of quality and its importance.
  • Troubleshooting: Determine the cause of operating errors and develop possible solutions. Independently make small adjustments but speak with the appropriate people (e.g., supervisors, colleagues) on problems that may be more systemic (e.g., a pattern of problems or serious problems).


Example Activities:

  • Assemble incoming parts in accordance with current manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Test equipment to ensure quality production, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors or ring gauges.
  • Set up and verify functionality of safety equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems with equipment, devices or products.
  • Plan and lay out work to meet production and schedule requirements.
  • Teardown equipment and package it for shipping.
  • Install system equipment at customer facility.


Preferred Certifications:

  • Associates degree in welding technology, engineering, or related field
  • 1 year or more experience in robotic industry and/or welding
