Summary

Continuously drive factory improvements, using Lean Sigma tools, in safety, quality, customer service and costs while collaborating effectively with other areas of the business.  Oversees the employee staff within the department(s) of their responsibility to ensure the departmental goals and targets are met.  These areas are, but are not limited to; coaching / mentoring Leads, hiring and terminating of employees, completing production work schedules, training, performance evaluation, rewarding & counseling employees in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

Supervisor Responsibilities – 50%

  • Audit and maintain work instructions
  • Track daily time of production personnel
  • Assign resources to meet scheduled production requirements
  • Modify and audit work transactions
  • Ensure Kanban levels are maintained
  • Know, understand and be able to effectively utilize the various tools of Lean Manufacturing to support and lead the continuous improvement efforts including 6S audits
  • Perform and document 6S audits and take appropriate corrective actions
  • Coach and develop team members
  • Maintain training levels
  • Lead inventory audits / cycle counts
  • Participate in and coach others to lead daily Gemba walks
  • Fills in for employees, production supervisors and leads as necessary to meet customer requirements
  • Make on the spot corrections of any unsafe acts
  • Support and enforce all Company policies and procedures
  • Perform all responsibilities in a consistent, reliable and professional manner.
  • Exercise strict confidentiality in regard to personnel matters.
  • Provide an environment which fosters good morale amongst your employees.
  • Establish and maintain sound communications with subordinates, peers and management.
  • Assist and support employees in resolving work related issues.

Supervisor Responsibilities – 50% Continued

  • Be an expert supplier and responsible internal customer.
  • Ensure employees are fulfilling the needs of the department and are held accountable for their actions.
  • Oversee the daily scheduling and execution of work orders to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained to appropriate standards
  • Perform all responsibilities in a consistent, reliable and professional manner.
  • Conducts oneself in a manner that sets a positive example for all employees and encourages teamwork.
  • Clean, inspect and disposition of tooling
  • Directly manages and performs employee evaluations, and manages staffing levels, holiday scheduling, and succession planning
  • Coach and develop direct reports including Production Leads
  • Manage the daily scheduling and execution of work orders to meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Monitor weekly production schedules and support in the manufacturing environment
  • Review and analyze inventory levels to ensure inventory accuracy on Work Orders and take action to improve inventory turns and reduce overall inventory while improving customer satisfaction through on-time delivery
  • Work with Purchasing to ensure that all necessary materials are on order and will be received in a timely manner
  • Educate and motivate production personnel on the importance of attaining key accountability metrics/goals

Administrative Responsibilities – 30%

  • Establish employee goals and expectations and provide on-going feedback, solicit performance input from leads, conduct and document employee performance evaluations during orientation period and established company performance review process for employees under direct supervision
  • Advise manager and HR, counsel employees and take disciplinary action when necessary
  • Conduct and document interviews, review selection assessments, and consult with manager and HR to make hiring decisions. Document reason for selection or rejection
  • Interface with Scheduling, Purchasing, and Maintenance
  • Report, investigate, and resolve all Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses. 
    • Properly fills out paperwork, takes pictures, leads root cause analysis of the IINM.
  • Responsible for helping correct discrepancies in 6s and EHS Audits

Administrative Responsibilities – 30% Continued

  • Exercise independent discretion to interview, hire, motivate, reward, counsel, discipline, and terminate employees in accordance with the company’s policies.
  • Directly manage an assigned team including all administrative duties such as evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Communicates pertinent information to leadership.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of daily data entry of production reports as demand warrants by coaching others to perform said tasks
  • Actively participates in activities for Mason’s Strategic Deployment Process (SDP)
  • Regularly interface with management on deliverables
  • Assists with the establishment and adherence to departmental budgets
  • Provide monthly performance reports
  • Interface with Scheduling, Purchasing, and Maintenance
  • Support Cycle count program for the production areas in the plant
  • Analyze manufacturing inventory negative balances and Work Order variances to correct inventories
  • Complete annual physical inventory for assigned department(s)
  • Maintain inventory turns target for assigned department(s)

Team Based Problem Solving / Projects – 20%

  • Lead improvement project teams and deliver accountable results
  • Participates in safety training and demonstrates a high regard for safety at all times
  • Attends team meetings
  • Utilizes lean tools: 6s, visual factory concepts in maintaining order and cleanliness
  • Lead cross-functional teams to facilitate optimal departmental performance
  • Analyze opportunities, develop and implement solutions to enhance the area processes; activities include scheduling process improvement, increase inventory turns, cycle counts, cost reduction efforts, statistical analysis, as well as utilizing Lean Six Sigma methodology, and teamwork
  • Complete assigned projects on time and within budget

Education and/or Experience

Required –

  • Associate's degree in Business Management, Production / Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management or equivalent degree; or at least two years of related experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing environment; or at least five years of related experience as a team lead in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  •  Ability to simultaneously execute multiple assignments
  • Problem solving
  • Project management

 

Preferred –

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Operations Management
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
  • SAP experience
  • Lean Manufacturing experience
