PURPOSE: Oversee the setup and operations of assigned Filler Rod lines. Take ownership of assigned area and be responsible for the results in that area. Identify and correct problems. Work with Operators in an instructional manner that will continuously improve their skills and job knowledge. Monitor, coach, reward, and address employee behaviors concerning safety, environment, quality, and productivity. Minimize production downtime, department scrap and assist in maintaining a high quality and safe work environment. Reports directly to the Production Operations Manager/Shift Supervisor.
JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)
- Review operators behaviors concerning environmental safeguards and employee safe work practices, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001, and line cleanliness; guide operators and address issues as needed.
- Keep the production lines running efficiently and minimize down time related to mechanical or electrical problems.
- Work with the operators to reduce process variation and scrap that is related to set-up problems.
- Assist the operators in determining when parts need changing because of excessive wear.
- Inform the Quality Assurance Department when a changeover or Special Order production run occurs.
- Control the separation of material that is held up for further tests, pending disposition, or requires special handling.
- Direct the movement of held up/out of spec/rejected material to the designated hold area.
- Work with the Scheduler and Shift Supervisor to redirect wire drawing / rewind operations to available lines in order maximize output.
- Set up and assist other setup personnel on changeovers of assigned Filler Rod lines and validate changeover is completed properly, including lot control and special orders.
- Maintain straightening, precision casting, and/or steiner roll units according to procedures.
- Perform assigned preventative maintenance duties on assigned lines and equipment.
- Oversee the training new employees and operators being cross trained.
- Help develop operators’ skills regarding troubleshooting and other applicable tasks.
- Assist engineering with new equipment projects and product development. May run some new product trials independently.
- Ensure wood reel products are cooled properly and wrapped in a timely manner for material disposition.
- Follow military specs and ensure proper completion of paperwork and MES traceability.
- Review, understand, and follow the departmental procedures, EW Specifications, SSW Specifications, and Plant Rules and Regulations that are associated with the performance of this job.
- Obey all safety rules, maintain the cleanliness of the work area and perform other duties as assigned by the Production Operations Manager /Shift Supervisor.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s 2025 Strategy.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
- High school degree or equivalent required.
- Read, write and do general math well enough to keep the records associated with this job.
- Able to understand and interpret the specifications and procedures related to this job.
- Self-motivated, safety and quality conscious; requiring minimal supervision.
- Be mechanically skilled.
- Basic computer skills, able and willing to learn new systems when implemented.
