Mechanical Leader

Has Reporting: Machine Builders

 

Basic Function:  Coordination of assembly and tryout activities.  To effectively control costs, meet QS-9000 requirements and quality and delivery as specified by management.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  Organized by SQDCH – Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Human.

 

Safety

  • Follow and enforce safe working practices throughout the plant and all customer sites. 
  • Responsible for the proper execution of safety procedures/ training as outlined and identified by Fori Automation management, MIOSHA, and OSHA.  Participate as required as a member of a Safety Team.
  • Follow and enforce good housekeeping practices throughout the plant.

Quality

  • Assure good craftsmanship on jobs that are being built under his/her direction.
  • Complete as required in process QC check sheets.
  • Complete as required QC audits.

Delivery

  • Man power planning and coordination to enable timely delivery of jobs in conjunction with Mechanical Assembly Supervisor.  Understanding of time to complete tasks and supervision to achieve.  Know and understand due dates for equipment and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Provides constant feedback on job status to Mechanical Assembly Supervisor.
  • Directs builders in daily job assignments
  • Responsible for sub-assembly, final assembly tryout, paint, disassembly and shipping.
  • Audit received incoming material/marked-up BOMs, dispense to builders, provide proper storage for all incoming material required for job(s).  Feedback to supervisor material status.
  • Direct the packing and loading of machines/units for shipping.
  • Order necessary materials for completion of job(s).
  • Fill in where required for absences.
  • Take lead and/or assist in de-bug functions for machinery.
  • Travel as needed to assist in installations, de-bug, problem investigation, or problem solving to customer sites.

Cost

  • Recommend, initiate, and follow-up as needed on engineering changes and document according to ECO procedures.  Document changes per ECO process using the kiosk located on the shop floor.
  • Work on continuous improvement projects as needed.

 

Human

  • Make recommendations to Mechanical Assembly Supervisor on personnel selection.
  • Provide training and assistance to new employees.  Support new employees with interpretation of build prints.  Mentor and develop Sub-Leaders.
  • Support special assignments as needed.

 

 

Prerequisites:

Educational:    High School Diploma required

                        Journeyman card/status required

                            Associate’s Degree in Technical field preferred

Experience:     10 years minimum experience as Machine Builder

                        2 years previous experience as leader preferred
