We’re seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Weld Systems Engineering Team in Shelby Township, MI. This role will manage a multidisciplinary group of mechanical engineers responsible for the concept, design, and execution of automated welding systems. The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge, strong leadership, and a passion for process improvement to ensure the highest standards of performance, quality, and manufacturability.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop a team of mechanical engineers, including design, project, process, and simulation engineers.
  • Oversee project planning by creating detailed job logs (unit lists) and weekly resource schedules.
  • Manage resource allocation, forecasting, and workload balancing across multiple projects.
  • Evaluate and procure outside engineering support; participate in sourcing decisions.
  • Ensure adherence to and continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design of complete weld systems, including tooling, motion systems, transfers, and station layouts.
  • Support the selection and specification of mechanical components as needed.
  • Lead internal and external design reviews; ensure designs meet Fori and customer standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Controls Project Engineers to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact with customers, addressing design-related issues and driving resolution.
  • Step in as Project Engineer when required to ensure project continuity and success.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design or engineering management, ideally in automation or welding systems.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams and outside design resources.
  • Strong background in mechanical design; proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge of spot and MIG welding systems and familiarity with NAAMS components.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with Autodesk Vault is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Epicor Kinetic ERP systems is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (including travel to Canada); U.S. Passport required.
