Job Responsibilities
Help transform welding flux development from an empirical, trial-and-error process into a predictive, data-driven materials engineering discipline. The role focuses on understanding how variability in inorganic raw materials influences manufacturing behavior and welding performance, and applying Quality-by-Design (QbD), advanced analytics, and computational methods to develop more robust and consistent consumable products.
- Develop analytical characterization strategies for flux raw materials using techniques such as XRD, XRF, ICP, SEM-EDS, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and thermal analysis.
- Apply statistical methods, chemometrics, and Bayesian optimization to understand the impact of raw material variability on product performance.
- Establish Quality-by-Design (QbD) frameworks by identifying Critical Material Attributes (CMAs) and linking them to manufacturing and welding outcomes.
- Develop predictive models using machine learning, multivariate statistics, and materials informatics to accelerate formulation development.
- Collaborate with welding experts, manufacturing teams, and data scientists to build a digital foundation connecting raw materials, processing parameters, and performance.
Job Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in advanced materials characterization and analytical techniques.
- Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis, chemometrics, Design of Experiments (DoE), and Bayesian or probabilistic modeling approaches.
- Experience with machine learning, data analytics, and scientific programming (Python, R, JMP, MATLAB, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of computational materials science, thermodynamic modeling, or Quality-by-Design methodologies is highly desirable.
Ideal Candidate
We are particularly interested in candidates from pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, advanced materials, ceramics, catalysts, or related industries who can bring new perspectives to material characterization and process understanding. The ability to combine analytical science, statistics, and first-principles thinking to solve complex materials problems is far more important.
