Purpose

The Application Engineering team serves as the Voice of the Customer internally and the Welding Experts externally. We design and execute customer support projects, product demonstrations, equipment and consumable evaluations, and development initiatives that support both existing and next-generation welding solutions.
Description (Duties & Responsibilities)
Position Summary
The Technician supports Application Engineering technologists and engineers by preparing, executing, and documenting welding-related projects, demonstrations, evaluations, and customer solutions. This role requires hands-on expertise in welding processes, equipment operation, material preparation, testing, and laboratory support activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for customer projects, demonstrations, product evaluations, and development activities.
- Prepare laboratory workstations, equipment, materials, and project setups for testing and customer demonstrations.
- Perform welding and cutting operations for equipment and consumable evaluations, including:
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
- FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding)
- SAW (Submerged Arc Welding)
- GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
- Support evaluation, testing, and application of Lincoln Electric welding products and technologies.
- Maintain inventory of materials and consumables.
- Operate cutting, beveling, and material preparation equipment.
- Coordinate ordering, shipping, and receiving of materials, equipment, and test samples.
- Conduct basic weld testing and sample preparation, including macro etching and bend testing.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and customer-focused solutions.

Technician II
Minimum Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical Training with 3+ years of related experience; or
- High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of related experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Developing proficiency in manual and mechanized welding processes.
- Working knowledge of material preparation and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to perform established technical procedures and operational processes.
- Applies experience and technical skills to complete assignments within defined guidelines.
- Works within standard operating procedures and established methodologies.
- Demonstrates initiative in learning new technologies and expanding technical capabilities.
Requirements
Technician III
Minimum Qualifications
- Vocational/Technical Training with 5+ years of related experience; or
- High School Diploma/GED with 7+ years of related experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced knowledge of welding processes, applications, and equipment.
- Proficiency across multiple technical processes or specialized expertise in a focused area.
- Independently performs complex welding evaluations, testing, and demonstrations.
- Assists in determining technical approaches for new assignments and projects.
- Works with limited supervision and exercises sound technical judgment.
- Serves as an informal mentor and resource for less experienced team members.
- Contributes to process improvements and technical problem-solving efforts.
