Summary

 

Lincoln Electric is seeking an Engineering Technologist for our Cleveland, Ohio headquarters. The Engineering Technologist will play a key role in the design, development and evaluation of welding machines and associated processes. The Technologist will conduct applied research into new areas of welding machine design and/or on new welding processes. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a global leader in its industry. Responsibilities

 

  • Develop new welding machines, software, welding processes and/or test methodologies in accordance with company policies/procedures and in consideration of: 
    • Market needs, requiring direct interface with customers, sales and marketing.
    • Industry codes, standards, and specifications
    • Manufacturing process capabilities, requiring direct interface with manufacturing and methods personnel.
  • Work in R&D on the design, specification and documentation of components, assemblies and complete welding products.
  • Activities include design of test equipment, development of software for welding machine control, and testing of complete welding products as required.
  • May lead projects or project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing activities or objectives.
  • Has in-depth knowledge in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Perform and supervise the testing of new designs, processes, warranty improvements and cost reductions. Assist in development of design guides, design review checklists and general machine FMEAs.
  • Coordinates the activities of technical support personnel and may lead cross-functional teams.
  • Effectively use and contribute to Lincoln’s expertise, supporting bodies of knowledge in design methods and resources, to achieve significant customer value.
  • Engineer safe, high quality, cost effective, ergonomic, and environmentally responsible parts, subsystems and complete machines.
  • Engage in Voice of Customer actions and evaluate market needs. Support sales, Marketing, Service and customer issues as required. Revitalize and rationalize legacy products and improve their quality.
  • Engage with global teams and stakeholders to improve Lincoln’s welding solution strategy.
  • Establish and support corporate strategic related projects; contributes to strategic planning. Operates with substantial latitude for unreviewed action or decision in complex environments. Review progress and perform other duties as needed or assigned.

 

Education & Experience Required 

 

  • Level II:

            Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology & 3+ years of related experience OR  Associate degree in related field & 5+ years of related experience OR 10+ years of related experience

  • Level III:

            Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology & 5+ years of related experience OR Associate degree in related field & 7+ years of related experience OR 15+ years of related experience

  • Ability to multitask in support of various projects
  • Initiative to take ownership of product designs.
  • Experience in design, testing and problem solving.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform hands-on work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
