Role Purpose

The Indirect Sourcing Manager – Capital Expenditures leads category strategy, supplier performance, and sourcing execution for capital projects across the region (Americas or EMEA). This role oversees strategic sourcing for capital equipment, automation systems, tooling, major construction projects, engineering services, and related investment categories. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Regional Strategic Sourcing Leadership – CapEx

  • Lead capital equipment and project‑related sourcing strategies across the Americas, balancing regional scale with plant‑specific technical requirements.
  • Develop and deploy sourcing strategies for production equipment, automation, robotics, tooling, construction, infrastructure upgrades, and engineering services.
  • Drive supplier rationalization, standardization of equipment platforms, and preferred supplier adoption to support performance reliability and lifecycle value, while respecting site-specific production and safety requirements.
  • Identify and execute multi‑site and regional CapEx sourcing opportunities, including large construction and expansion projects.
  • Collaborate with global procurement and engineering to align on global platforms, standards, and preferred suppliers.
  • Utilize structured sourcing methodologies including lifecycle costing, value engineering, commercial risk modeling, and competitive bid processes.

2. Execution Management

  • Ensure consistent deployment of CapEx sourcing strategies, project governance, and commercial compliance across all regional sites.
  • Drive alignment between project engineering, plant operations, finance, and global category leadership.

3. Procurement Execution and Governance

  • Create and maintain multi‑year strategic sourcing plans for capital equipment and investment categories.
  • Lead RFx events, total lifecycle cost analysis, supplier evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contract execution using the LECO Ariba eSourcing platform.
  • Improve cost transparency, scope discipline, supplier risk assessment, and project risk management for decentralized capital spending.
  • Communicate sourcing strategies, capital project risks, savings performance, and supplier evaluations to plant leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders.

4. Supplier and Market Management

  • Manage supplier performance across quality, safety, delivery, commissioning performance, technical support, and lifecycle cost.
  • Conduct market analysis to understand technology trends, supply risks, capacity constraints, and cost drivers in equipment, automation, machinery, and construction markets.
  • Lead supplier business reviews, performance scorecards, and supplier development initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project‑level and supplier‑level risks impacting schedule, scope, or cost.

5. Cross‑Functional Leadership and Digital Enablement

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Project Management to ensure sourcing decisions align with technical requirements, uptime expectations, and long‑term equipment strategies.
  • Collaborate with EHS, Construction Management, Legal, and Finance to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and internal CapEx governance.
  • Support digital procurement initiatives, including contract automation, project dashboards, and preferred supplier digital catalogs.
  • Promote standardization of specifications, equipment platforms, and engineering solutions across the region to maximize leverage and reduce lifecycle cost.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPSM, CIPS, PMP, or equivalent technical certification preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of strategic procurement experience, preferably in CapEx, equipment sourcing, construction sourcing, or engineering‑intensive categories.
  • Experience leading distributed teams supporting large cross‑functional projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to interface with engineering, project management, and executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate across diverse technical and regulatory environments in the Americas.
  • Knowledge of lean principles, capital project lifecycle management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with Ariba or similar eSourcing platforms preferred.
  • Successful candidates will be comfortable operating in a matrixed, engineering-led environment, influencing outcomes through structure, data, and partnerships.
