Purpose
The Plant Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering function to deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, cost, and delivery across plant operations. This role defines and executes engineering strategy, oversees capital investment planning, and ensures alignment with corporate and operational objectives.
The Manager has full accountability for engineering performance, organizational capability development, and the effective execution of a portfolio of capital and continuous improvement initiatives. Plant Engineering Managers play a critical leadership role in supporting production and maintenance operations, ensuring equipment reliability, uptime, and sustainable manufacturing performance.
Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities)
- Champion a culture of safety across engineering, production, and maintenance interfaces
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, policies, and best practices
- Lead the performance management process, including establishing employee goals, conducting performance reviews, assigning ratings, and ensuring alignment with company performance standards
- Lead, develop, and mentor engineers, technologists, and technical professionals
- Build organizational capability through succession planning and leadership development
- Lead the development of early talent by mentoring co-op students, interns, and participants in training programs, while actively participating in recruiting events, candidate interviews, and ensuring a positive and engaging experience
- Serve as a key member of Plant Engineering leadership, influencing operational and strategic decisions
- Define and execute the plant engineering strategy aligned with divisional and corporate objectives
- Lead large, complex, cross-functional engineering projects from concept through implementation
- Coordinate strategic production downtimes with maintenance and production to install new equipment or make critical updates to existing equipment.
- Prioritize and allocate engineering resources to maximize impact
- Own engineering support for production, ensuring rapid resolution of issues impacting safety, quality, and delivery.

- Drive improvements in equipment uptime, reliability, quality and maintenance effectiveness through engineering solutions and root cause analysis
- Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, and sustainability
- Ensure successful integration of new equipment, systems, and technologies into operations
- Support production ramp-ups, new product launches, and operational changes through proactive engineering engagement
- Provide hands-on leadership in resolving critical plant floor issues impacting operations
- Own development, management, and execution of capital expenditures.
- Ensure team follows financial discipline in project execution
- Partner with Production, Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, and ES&C to improve plant performance
- Collaborate with IT teams to improve manufacturing systems, data visibility, and operational efficiency
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field required)
- 5+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership responsibility
- Demonstrated leadership in driving a strong safety culture
- Proven ability to lead and support quality initiative
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
- Proven track record of delivering measurable business results
- Experience managing capital projects timelines and budgets
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams
