Purpose

The Portfolio Manager, Heavy Industrial Equipment, is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, performance, and lifecycle of the global MIG/MAG / SAW equipment portfolio of related product lines (includes heavy industrial fluxcored / metalcore inclusive >~300 amps). This role ensures alignment with market needs, business goals, and innovation strategies. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, cross-functional leadership, and an understanding of manufacturing environments to drive portfolio growth and profitability. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy & Planning: 

Develop and own the rolling five-year strategic roadmap for the portfolio of underlying product categories, ensuring alignment with overall portfolio & global equipment team objectives. 

Develop and execute portfolio strategy aligned with company objectives and market trends. 

Identify growth opportunities, product gaps, and rationalization needs across the portfolio. 

Revenue & Market Performance:

Manages group of product families where the total portfolio value can exceed $250M per year.   

Monitor and drive portfolio level revenue, pricing, and profitability. Make data-driven decisions on feature prioritization, product improvements, and retirements.  

Financial Oversight: 

Develop business cases for new product initiatives and manage portfolio-level profitability. 

Track revenue, margin, and ROI for key product lines. 

Lifecycle Management: 

Manage the full product lifecycle—from ideation and development to launch, maturity, and phase-out across the portfolio. 

Monitor product performance and recommend adjustments to pricing, positioning, or investment. 

Market & Competitive Analysis: 

Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor offerings to inform portfolio decisions. 

Collaborate with market intelligence and sales teams to gather insights and validate strategies. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration: 

Work closely with engineering, operations, marketing, and sales to ensure successful product development and commercialization. 

Lead portfolio reviews and communicate performance metrics to stakeholders. 

Customer & Competitive Insights: 

Leads their team to conduct in-depth customer research to validate market needs and guide product development. Track competitor activities and emerging trends within the category.  

People Leadership & Team Development:

Directly manage and mentor 4+ Product Managers of various levels, ensuring performance growth. Conduct 1:1 coaching, career development planning, and hiring efforts. Establish and monitor team KPIs, ensuring alignment with business goals. Has accountability for the performance and results of their team. Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and other challenges. Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures and business plans

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in product management or portfolio strategy, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management and go-to-market strategies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 20%.
