Purpose

The Special Set‑Up role directs and coordinates daily activities within the Chemical and Cutoff Departments to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production. This position supports continuous operations by managing materials, equipment readiness, and workforce coordination while upholding environmental, health, and safety standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate activities within the Chemical and Cutoff Departments to support safe and efficient production.
  • Maintain production flow by ensuring lines are properly supplied, staffed, and operating as required.
  • Assist mixer personnel by determining production priorities, ordering mixes, performing changeovers, dumping mixes, and assisting with mixer and pan cleanout.
  • Support slug personnel by identifying required mixes and coordinating slugging activities.
  • Coordinate breaks for slug personnel and weighers to prevent production stoppages.
  • Ensure the effective movement, handling, and availability of materials throughout the department.
  • Maintain accurate chemical inventories and address material shortages as needed.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance; ensure proper use and care of tooling, equipment, and supplies.
  • Verify completion and accuracy of all required handoff sheets and production documentation.
  • Monitor quality conditions, including issues related to hard material, silicate, moisture, rework particle size, and non‑conformances.
  • Take timely action to reprocess rejected material and reduce quality losses.
  • Ensure all required personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, properly maintained, and worn.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards, including cleaning under mixers 4 and 10 and sweeping floors in front of all mixers.
  • Train, guide, and support employees to promote safe work practices and adherence to procedures.
  • Help direct traffic and workflow within the department to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company’s RISE Strategy.

Basic Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience in manufacturing operations; experience in chemical or cutoff processes strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Chemical and Cutoff Department processes, equipment, and materials
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete production documentation
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform routine inspections, housekeeping, and maintenance tasks
  • Ability to work well with others, motivate employees, and support team performance
  • Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
