Purpose

The Extruder Team Lead assists in coordinating activities within the Extruding Department to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality production of manual electrodes. This role supports production schedules through effective changeovers, equipment setup, troubleshooting, and coordination with cross‑functional teams while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities)

  1. Ensures safety, workmanship, product quality, and productivity in all assigned duties.
  2. Assists in coordinating extruding department activities to meet the production schedule.
  3. Works with the Shift Foreman 24/27, Mixers, Cut‑off Team Leads, Boxer Team Leads, and production personnel to achieve scheduled production of quality products.
  4. Meets with the Shift Foreman 24/27, Mixers, and other Team Leads approximately 30 minutes into the shift to review the production schedule and any changes.
  5. Takes action to identify, address, and eliminate production or operational issues.
  6. Communicates in a timely manner with maintenance, the Shift Foreman, the Chief Set‑Up, and other support functions to ensure efficient line performance.
  7. Prepares parts and materials required for extruder changeovers.
  8. Sets up the Wire Color Code Display Board, salvage skinner, and drier heats during changeovers.
  9. Assists Extruder Operators during production stops by making adjustments and replacing parts to minimize downtime.
  10. Optimize extruder setups and oversees equipment startup following changeovers.
  11. Obtains extruder dies, verifies correct issuance, and delivers dies in holders to the appropriate extruder.

12. Prepares, cleans, and maintains die holders and extruder heads for upcoming changeovers.

13. Reviews and approves Changeover Sheets, Part Sheets, and Pay Cards for accuracy and completeness.

14. Assists in training new Extruding Helpers, Operators, and Team Leads within the department.

15. Maintains working knowledge of Permission Notes that impact products being produced.

16. Reviews, understands, and follows departmental procedures, work instructions, EW specifications, SSW specifications, plant rules, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).

17. Maintains cleanliness of work areas and complies with all safety and plant rules.

18. Operates and supports all equipment used within the Extruding Department.

19. Immediately reports safety hazards, equipment issues, or EHS concerns to the Production Team Lead or Shift Foreman 24/27.

20. Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed

Basic Requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience sufficient to demonstrate full knowledge of extruding department processes, equipment, and production methods (specific years not defined).
  3. SAP (for EHS procedures, specifications, and reference documentation)
  4. Ability to read, write, and perform general math to maintain production records.
  5. Ability to understand and interpret manufacturing specifications and procedures.
  6. Strong mechanical aptitude with minimal supervision required.
  7. Knowledge of extruding production processes, machine capabilities, and workflow.
  8. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  9. Safety‑ and quality‑focused, self‑motivated work approach.
