Welding Applications Engineer

Summary

We are seeking an Applications Welding Engineer to join our team at our world headquarters in Euclid, Ohio. The Applications Engineering (AE) team designs and executes customer support projects, technical demonstrations, and equipment and consumable development evaluations. Our mission is simple: make the world better by making welding understandable.  

In this role, you will work directly with customers, sales teams, and product development groups to solve complex welding challenges, evaluate new technologies, and implement solutions using both existing and next-generation products. The AE team serves as the Voice of the Customer within the organization and as the Welding Experts externally.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Partner with customers, market segment teams, and Technical Sales Representatives to understand industry challenges and identify solution gaps.
• Lead and manage applied R&D projects, including customer support initiatives, process evaluations, demonstrations, and solution development activities.
• Troubleshoot complex welding applications and manufacturing challenges.
• Identify and recommend productivity improvements, process enhancements, and welding best practices for customers.
• Conduct welding demonstrations and effectively communicate the technical and business value of proposed solutions.
• Develop expertise across Lincoln Electric welding equipment and consumable product lines, serving as a subject matter expert (SME).
• Collaborate with engineering, product management, and R&D teams to support new product development initiatives.
• Represent customer needs and feedback throughout the product development process, serving as the Voice of the Customer.
• Document project results, provide technical recommendations, and support implementation activities with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of welding processes, technologies, and application knowledge within the organization.

Basic Requirements

All Levels

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related technical discipline. Welding Engineering Preferred
• Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills related to manufacturing and welding processes.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% as required.
• Physical ability to work in an office, manufacturing, and customer environments, including: lifting up to 60 pounds on occasion, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders and stairs when required.
• Demonstrated competency in project management, technical problem solving, collaboration, and professional development

Level III

• Engineering Degree with 5-8 Years of relevant experience
• Advanced welding and process knowledge
• Experience leading projects and solving complex technical challenges.

Level IV

• Engineering Degree with 8+ Years of Experience
• Advanced welding process expertise and project management experience.
• PE license and/or advanced degree preferred.
• Lead complex customer projects and strategic initiatives.
• Serve as a recognized technical expert within the organization.
• Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams.
• Develop innovative solutions and influence product development efforts.
• Operate independently while supporting the organization's most challenging application issues.
