Position Summary
The Applications Support Engineer works closely with Application Engineer (AE), Sales, Project Managers, and Engineers to determine the best automation solutions that fulfill given customer constraints. This will be done through both individual analysis as well as interactions with other engineering disciplines. The Applications Support Engineer is responsible for supporting technical evaluation needs of all opportunities that are managed by each AE. The person in this position must facilitate the team concept and have the capability to develop and encourage co-workers’ skills and abilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Evaluate technical content of complex potential projects and work with the AEs, Sales and Engineering personnel to define system requirements and develop a solution that satisfies such requirements through:
- Process Requirements
- Reach studies
- Cycle Times
- Simulations
- Feasibility Studies
- Technology evaluation
- Manage and maintain applications lab equipment
- Evaluate new technologies to improve Lincolns capabilities and generate competitive advantages
- Mentor and leverage interns in getting tasks done while fostering a learning environment
- Demonstrate excellent communications skills, both written and verbal; demonstrate leadership ability and relate well to others
- Other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by the Applications Manager.
Special Qualifications
- Intimate technical knowledge with automation systems
- Understanding of technical requirements for various arc welding processes
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Experience with CAD and Microsoft products including: Solidworks, RobotStudio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint,
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required
Principal Accountabilities
- Help to ensure products standards are used in system solutions to maintain consistency and reduce internal cost
- Adhere to required timelines and help manage/communicate priorities when all requests cannot be met
- Keep the Applications Manager informed
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

Physical demands: Work is a mix of standing, bending, squatting, lifting and walking and some long periods of sitting. There is frequent reaching, bending, pulling and lifting in relationship to components to be gathered and integrated. This individual must be able to occasionally lift 70 pounds and frequently lift 25 pounds. This position requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to work with the automation equipment and tools.
Work environment: Robotics Lab and normal office environment. The noise level is usually moderate; temperatures in the customer work area may fluctuate with the seasons as the production area may not be air conditioned. Occasional travel.
