Job Summary

We are recruiting an Electrical Engineering Lead to join our engineering team and support the development of integrated automation systems and complementary products. This is a hands-on technical leadership role suited for an intermediate-level engineer with strong electrical and controls expertise and the ability to lead work across disciplines.

The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical, controls, software, robotics, and production teams to deliver reliable, high-performance systems. This role requires strong capability in electrical design, PLC-based controls, industrial networks, and how electrical architecture integrates with mechanical and software systems.

The ideal candidate is a self-driven problem solver who takes ownership, provides direction within assigned projects, and supports cross-functional decisions. This role includes increasing responsibility for technical leadership, coordination of electrical work, and mentoring, with a path toward building and leading an engineering team.

Major Responsibilities

  • To report directly to the Engineering Manager and communicate all relevant matters pertaining to the engineering team.
  • Lead design for automated industrial machinery and robotic systems.
  • Create, revise, and release electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, BOMs, I/O lists, cable schedules, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Design and support control panels, field wiring, safety circuits, I/O systems, power distribution, grounding/bonding, circuit protection, and machine electrical installation requirements.
  • Size, select, configure, and troubleshoot electrical components, including sensors, actuators, motors, VFDs, servo drives, safety devices, and industrial control hardware.
  • Configure and support robotic automation systems, including robot I/O, I/O devices, control interfaces, and machine integration.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic, industrial networks, Ethernet/IP, CIP Safety, and related controls integration.
  • Interpret and apply applicable electrical codes, safety standards, customer requirements, and internal engineering requirements, including Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA, IEC 60204-1, CSA/UL, ESA, and CE requirements as applicable.
  • Lead and coordinate troubleshooting of electrical, controls, robotic, communication, and integration issues across design, build, commissioning, and service.
  • Take ownership of assigned technical problems by investigating issues, using documentation and internal expertise, testing assumptions, and following through to resolution.
  • Coordinate electrical work with mechanical, controls, software, robotics, production, service, and project stakeholders.
  • Contribute to cross-functional design reviews and provide input to system-level technical decisions.
  • Identify risks, assumptions, constraints, and open issues early, and communicate recommended actions.
  • Ensure BOM accuracy, revision control, redlines, technical documentation, and released electrical design packages are complete and accurate.

Major Responsibilities (Continued)

  • Support compliance planning, evidence collection, design reviews, risk assessments, validation activities, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical direction for electrical scope within assigned projects, including design decisions and integration trade-offs, while mentoring engineers, designers, and technicians and supporting development of electrical engineering standards and best practices.
  • To fully abide and actively support Lincoln Electric’s Environmental Health & Safety policies, practices and procedures with respect to protecting the environment, the conservation of nature resources and the Health & Safety of all employees.
  • To participate co-operatively as an employee within the company Performance Appraisal Process and Merit Rating System.
  • To actively participate in company, staff or individual one-on-one meetings on an ongoing basis for the purposes of effective teamwork, enhanced communication and progressive co-operation strategies within the department as well as other departments across the company.
  • To conduct any general duties, specific projects and responsibilities as assigned or required by the Engineering Manager in a timely and professional manner.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirement

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, robotic systems, custom machinery, or similar environments.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting electrical systems for automated machinery.
  • Experience leading or coordinating electrical design work or technical activities within projects.
  • Strong experience with PLC programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of integrated automation systems.
  • Experience with robotic automation, control system integration, and industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP; CIP Safety considered an asset).
  • Experience selecting and applying electrical components, including drives (VFD/servo), motors, sensors, actuators, safety devices, and industrial control hardware.
  • Experience with control panels, power distribution, grounding/bonding, circuit protection, and machine installation requirements.
  • Experience interpreting and applying electrical codes and standards (CEC, NFPA, IEC, CSA/UL, CE, etc.).
  • Strong cross-functional experience working across mechanical, controls, software, robotics, production, and service teams.
  • Experience troubleshooting during build, commissioning, or field/service support.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship is an asset.
  • Professional Engineering designation is an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Ability to create, review, and troubleshoot schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and related documentation.
