PRIMARY FUNCTION

Work with the Fabrication Manager and other coworkers to ensure that all jobs are welded to their specifications and meet the outlined requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • High school diploma/GED, certificate in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent work experience

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Heat-treat parts using acetylene torches
  • Lift or move materials and finished products using large overhead cranes
  • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces in order to cut, bend, and straighten metal
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met
  • Locate and mark workpieces' bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications
  • Mark reference points on floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone
  • Move parts into position manually or by using hoists or cranes
  • Position, align, and fit parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools
  • Operate equipment using safe workplace habits
  • Examine workpieces for defects
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Document actions by completing production timesheets
  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience as a fitter and/or fabricator (experience with fitting Invar® or steel layup molds for composites fabrication is a major plus)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate in welding technology or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to pass a drug test, with little or no notice, in compliance with the law
  • Ability to pass a background check in compliance with the law
  • To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government
