The Automation Division is responsible for providing engineered solutions, integrated systems, automation programming and technical support to Lincoln Electric’s ongoing sales efforts specifically focused upon fume extraction, flexible and hard automation products and services.

Automation is further responsible for the provision of technical support to direct end-user customers for service / maintenance contracts and warrantee related solutions, as well as troubleshooting and problem solving with respect to customer issues.

The Automation Team is expected to deliver results while contributing to Lincoln Electric’s ongoing business activities and priorities, as well as meeting internal and external customer requirements in a timely, discreet and ethical manner.

Position Summary

This hands-on, service-oriented role focuses on electrical troubleshooting, on-site diagnostics, field support, and PLC/HMI programming in industrial production environments. The ideal candidate is a licensed or experienced industrial electrician with strong PLC programming skills who thrives on direct equipment interaction, rapid root-cause analysis of electrical and control system issues, and delivering high-quality support to customers in fast-paced manufacturing settings. While PLC and HMI programming is a key responsibility, the primary emphasis of this position is practical field service expertise, electrical problem-solving, and real-world application of automation systems. Primary platforms include Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation and FactoryTalk View ME/SE.

Major Responsibilities

Electrical & Field Service Focus

  • Perform hands-on electrical troubleshooting of industrial automation systems, including control panels, VFDs, servos, sensors, and field devices
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical, wiring, grounding, I/O, and power issues in customer facilities
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot from electrical schematics, & wiring diagrams
  • Support on-site system commissioning, start-ups, service calls, and upgrades
  • Perform field modifications to panels, devices, wiring, and control components as required
  • Provide emergency and scheduled service support to customers
  • Communicate technical findings, root causes, and corrective actions clearly to customers and internal teams
  • Provide on-site customer training related to operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Assist with technical documentation, service reports, and as-built updates
  • Support engineering and sales teams with technical input based on field experience

PLC / Controls Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, modify, and optimize existing PLC and HMI programs in support of field issues
  • Develop, maintain, and update PLC and HMI programs for new and existing automation systems
  • Perform I/O checkout, loop checks, and functional testing
  • Support system simulation, validation, and customer acceptance testing

Position Requirements

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Requirement: 

  • Licensed Industrial Electrician or Electrical Technician/Technologist preferred
  • Electrical apprenticeship completion or equivalent hands-on industrial experience
  • Formal education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field considered

 

Position Requirements:

  • 3-7 years of hands-on industrial electrical experience, including troubleshooting live production equipment
  • 3–7 years of PLC and HMI experience, with a strong emphasis on troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting service, maintenance, or commissioning roles in industrial environments.
    • Control panels and panel components
    • VFDs, servo drives, AC/DC motors
    • Safety circuits and devices
    • Sensors, actuators, and field instrumentation
  • Solid PLC troubleshooting and programming skills (Allen-Bradley)
  • Experience with HMI systems (FactoryTalk View, CCW)
  • Understanding of networking and industrial communications (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet)
  • Working knowledge of Hydraulics and pneumatics and Electrical safety standards and best practices

 

Other Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and customer-service skills
  • Comfortable working independently in the field
  • Canadian Citizen with valid passport and drivers license
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% within Canada and the U.S.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
