The Automation Division delivers engineered solutions, programming, integration, and technical support for specifically for fume extraction, flexible and hard automation welding products and services. The Automation Team is expected to deliver results while contributing to Lincoln Electric’s ongoing business activities and priorities, as well as, meeting internal and external customer requirements in a timely, discreet and ethical manner.

Position Summary

The Electrical Design Specialist is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning automation and control systems. This includes PLC/HMI/SCADA development, electrical design, and supporting system integration for automated welding solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and control systems for automated equipment
  • Develop and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (B&R, Rockwell Studio5000, FactoryTalk)
  • Completes software programming and hardware/software design using established standards as required
  • Support troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer/service issues
  • Communicate project status, technical details, and system operation to stakeholders
  • Assist with hardware/software selection and project cost estimates
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure standards compliance
  • Develop programming estimates to support cost estimation for quoting and sales initiatives
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, stay up to date with emerging technologies, and contribute to company initiatives
  • To fully abide and actively support Lincoln Electric’s Environmental Health & Safety policies, practices and procedures with respect to protecting the environment, the conservation of nature resources and the Health & Safety of all employees.

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Requirement

  • College Degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronic, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 1–3+ years of experience in industrial automation and controls
  • Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Background in system integration, wiring, and troubleshooting
  • Experience reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to scope/schedule changes
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (U.S. & Canada)

Technical Skills

  • Control systems integration and plant automation
  • Knowledge of Servo Motors, VFDs, hydraulics, AC / DC Electrical, and pneumatics
  • Familiarity with codes/standards (CEC, UL508A, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA79, ISO)
  • Understanding of ISA-95 and ISA-101
  • Experience in industries such as automotive, food processing, pharma, or chemical
