Primary Function

The Environmental Research & Design Supervisor at Lincoln Electric Orrville Ohio is accountable for managing all aspect of OP114 Environmental design process to bring new Environmental Fume products to the market.  The candidate needs to be technically competent in both Mechanical and Electrical Design and be willing to learn filtration.  This position also develops applications guidelines for our Environmental specialists to quote customer specific applications – such as determining total Air Flow, SCFM, and Air changes per hour.  The candidate needs to be competent in sheet metal design, and knowledgeable of PLC programing and code development.  The position manages a team of onsite Mechanical Project Managers, a small team of Electrical Engineers and technicians and offshore drafting resources.

Job Duties

  • Manage new product development projects and team personnel to achieve business growth in accordance with the project definition, obtaining the unit cost target to the project schedule
  • Work with Product Management to develop and execute development of value driven products and solutions for our customers
  • Identify and manage projects that are aimed at reducing costs on existing and new products
  • Resource for Sales Specialists to determine the appropriate filter type for customer application
  • Determine and execute product cost reduction projects
  • Confirm and develop the proper air to cloth ratios, and SCFM or fans sizing for customer application
  • Develop and bring to market new filters for the Industrial Market
  • Be able to build and conduct test equipment to determine proper filter and SCFM for customer application
  • Plant review and analysis for specification of air flow rates, system selection and design and equipment specification
  • Ensure that the team is identifying and addressing machine reliability issues while ultimately reducing warranty costs
  • Proactively address lab related environment, ergonomic, and safety issues
  • Keep abreast of technological developments outside Lincoln Electric that could affect global competitiveness, and recommend further study or change when appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues and / or customers
  • Monitor business plans, market trends, and new innovations
  • Support the personal growth of direct employees through ongoing professional development
  • Assign personnel to resolve day to day operational or production issues
  • Ensure that all products meet current regulatory requirements
  • Assume additional responsibilities as needed

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical or Filtration Engineering required
  • 8+ years of experience in new product development 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability in personnel and project management, and regulatory issues
  • Strong business acumen and manufacturing background
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Ability to build and maintain superior relationships with internal and external clients at all levels
  • Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
  • Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives
  • Typically operates with broad latitude in a complex environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years experience supervising others 
  • 5+ years experience in Welding, Fume Extraction or HVAC, management preferred
