Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary

Lincoln Electric Automation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team in Reno, Nevada.  This position contributes to the design, development, testing, and support of industrial automation equipment, robotic systems, welding automation solutions, CNC cutting machinery, and related manufacturing technologies.

The successful candidate will work closely with cross functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle, including concept development, machine design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing support, and product improvement initiatives. Engineers in this role support products including Torchmate®, Vernon Tool®, MasterPipe®, PythonX®, and Linc-Cut™, while also collaborating with teams across Lincoln Electric Automation on a variety of robotic, welding, and industrial automation projects.

This position is ideal for a motivated engineer who enjoys hands-on involvement in machine design, industrial automation, robotics, and new product development and is looking to expand their technical expertise across a diverse portfolio of automation products.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for automation equipment and products.
• Design machine structures, motion systems, cutting process equipment, and related electromechanical assemblies.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and product documentation in accordance with company standards and revision control processes.
• Apply engineering principles, calculations, simulations, and analytical methods to support design decisions.
• Support and Execute product development projects throughout the lifecycle, from concept and design through validation, manufacturing release, and product support.
• Develop and execute product validation and verification activities, analyze performance data, investigate technical issues, and implement design improvements to enhance product reliability, quality, safety, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support prototype builds, production implementation, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.
• Coordinate and collaborate with electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and service teams to develop integrated automation solutions.
• Provide technical support to production, service, and quality departments as required.
• Maintain compliance with company safety policies and applicable industry standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, machine design, automation, or industrial equipment.
• Proficiency in creating 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of materials.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong mechanical design, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with industrial automation, robotics, CNC equipment, welding systems, motion control, or custom machinery.
• Familiarity with fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or similar CAD platforms.
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems and revision control processes.
• Experience supporting product testing, validation, or commissioning activities.
• Familiarity with electromechanical systems including motors, drives, sensors, pneumatics, and industrial controls.
• Hands-on experience working in manufacturing, prototype, or laboratory environments.

Physical Demand and Work Environment

• Primarily office-based engineering environment with frequent interaction in manufacturing and prototype assembly areas.
• Occasional lifting of equipment, tools, or components up to 25 pounds.
• Regular use of computers, engineering software, and standard office equipment.
• Occasional standing, walking, bending, and working around manufacturing equipment.
• Exposure to manufacturing environments may include noise, moving machinery, welding operations, and varying temperatures.
• Occasional travel may be required to support product development, testing, installation, or customer-related activities.
