Job Responsibilities
The role is responsible for conducting advanced metallurgical investigations, delivering high‑quality analytical reports, and recommending robust technical solutions.This position actively supports the development, improvement, and industrialization of welding consumables across all EMEA Lincoln Electric manufacturing sites, and represents the company as a technical authority in external industry forums, committees, and conferences.
Metallurgical Analysis & Investigations
- Perform advanced metallurgical investigations, including optical microscopy, SEM/EDS analysis, hardness testing, and failure analysis.
- Evaluate weld microstructures and heat‑affected zones (HAZ).
- Prepare clear, structured technical reports and communicate results to internal stakeholders and customers.
Product Development Support
- Contribute to the development of new welding consumables (electrodes, cored wires, solid wires, and fluxes).
- Support improvements to existing products to enhance quality, performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Participate in DOEs, formulation validation, laboratory and industrial testing activities.
Quality & Production Support
- Provide metallurgical expertise to EMEA production sites for troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and process optimization.
- Develop and maintain metallurgical standards, specifications, and testing procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, Quality Assurance, Application Engineering, and R&D teams to resolve product and process issues.
- Support Application Engineers during customer trials, qualifications, and complaint investigations requiring metallurgical expertise.
External Representation & Industry Engagement
- Represent Lincoln Electric externally, promoting leading‑edge technologies and innovations in welding metallurgy.
- Actively participate in external technical bodies and standards organizations (e.g. IIW, EWA, AWS, ISO, CEN, ASME, API).
- Contribute to standards committees and technical working groups.
- Present papers at conferences and maintain awareness of emerging trends and literature in welding, metallurgy, and materials science.
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in metallurgy, welding metallurgy, or welding consumables development/production.
- Strong background in metallurgical characterization techniques (microscopy, SEM/EDS, mechanical testing).
- Experience with international standards (AWS, EN ISO) is considered an advantage.
- Expert knowledge of ferrous and non‑ferrous metallurgy, welding processes, alloy design, and microstructure‑property relationships.
- Advanced metallography and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to interpret complex test results and translate them into practical recommendations.
- Strong technical reporting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Proven experience working in cross‑functional and global teams, including remote collaboration.
