Position Summary

The Service Project Manager leads the successful execution of automation service, retrofit, repair, and system upgrade projects from installation through final customer acceptance. Serving as the primary customer contact, this role coordinates field teams, engineering, controls, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on project leader with experience in industrial automation, strong customer-facing skills, and the ability to drive results in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Leadership

  • Lead field execution activities for automation system installations, startup, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
  • Coordinate field service technicians, controls engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Manage project schedules and field milestones to support customer delivery commitments.
  • Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Facilitate daily, weekly, or monthly project status meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure customer punch-list items are documented, prioritized, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Support final customer acceptance activities and project closeout documentation.


Customer Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary customer contact for all field-related project activities.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships throughout project execution.
  • Communicate project status, risks, schedule impacts, and resolution plans effectively.
  • Manage customer expectations while maintaining alignment with contractual requirements.
  • Escalate significant project concerns and coordinate resolution among internal teams.

Key Responsibilities, Continued

Resource Planning & Coordination

  • Collaborate with Project Management, Operations, Engineering, and Service leadership on staffing and resource planning.
  • Support travel planning, site logistics, and contractor coordination.

 

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Monitor project budgets, labor expenditures, and schedule performance.
  • Identify scope changes and support change order development and customer approval processes.
  • Minimize cost overruns through proactive planning and risk management.
  • Support project forecasting and reporting requirements.

 

Safety & Quality

  • Promote a culture of safety consistent with Lincoln Electric's safety standards and customer site requirements.
  • Ensure all field personnel comply with company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Conduct site safety reviews and support incident investigations when required.
  • Drive quality execution through adherence to project specifications, procedures, and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business Management, Project Management, or related field; OR 7+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing, field service, project management, or related technical environment.
  • Experience leading customer-facing projects within manufacturing, automation, robotics, or capital equipment industries.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, project schedules, and engineering documentation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team coordination experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent project management training.
  • Experience with robotic welding automation systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, industrial controls, and system integration projects.
  • Experience managing multi-site or large-scale capital equipment installations.
  • Familiarity with automotive, heavy equipment, agricultural, aerospace, or general manufacturing industries.
  • Previous field service leadership experience.
