Weld Systems Designer

Position Summary: Mechanical concept and design of functional equipment utilizing standards, specifications, and line up information presented by the Engineering manager, Supervisor or Leader

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mechanical concept and design based on a line up, specifications and part/vehicle data.
  • Able to use standard or reference designs for creation of new designs.
  • Prepare designs utilizing 2d and 3d CAD.
  • Create accurate B.O.M.’s utilizing 3d cad.
  • Able to perform and document basic calculations to verify design integrity, such as beam stress calculations.
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing principles
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial technology used as a tool for creation of designs.
  • Knowledge and proper use of materials and commercially available stock.
  • Organizing and maintaining CAD files.
  • Knowledge and use of NAAMs Standards.
  • Knowledge and use of Industry Engineering Standards for construction and clarification of assembly drawing.
  • Knowledge and use of Industry Standards for safety and ergonomics.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred
  • 1 year in design layout, or two years with previous experience in a similar position (without degree)
  • 1 year in design layout, or one year with previous experience in a similar position (with degree)
  • Experience in Mig and/or resistance weld machine design preferred
  • Must be experienced in either Inventor 3D, Mechanical Desktop or SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD
  • Team Player who can work within an ISO9001:2000 environment
  • Must be competent in advanced algebra and design techniques
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Employees may be required to stand, walk, sit, and use their hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls. This role also involves reaching with hands and arms, as well as the ability to communicate verbally and audibly. Tasks may include repetitive motions and computer work.  The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate.
